Lighter is good. But just like the Jetta, the Golf platform is going to be larger.
Cheaper materials? Probably. |

I assume they will continue to make the Golf much like it is today. |

I don't know, everything mentioned above sounds too good to be true. I really liked my 08 GTI a lot, just wanted a little more power and was concerned with VW reliability, as in just 29,900 miles I had to have like 4 things replaced.

They mention a lot of things in that article except the one thing many people want to hear, more reliability engineered into their cars.

I wouldn't be surprised if they go the way of the current Jetta.

the GTI is visual perfection, I hope they don't change the proportions and eff it up. I hope they offer the damn AWD as an option instead of forcing
you to buy a an R model that has a bunch of useless options like leather. I cand see a GTI with AWD option for $27k OTD like a WRX. hopefully they finally fix the unreliable nature of the car too. |

I could go for a higher performance TDI, too. My 2011 is great, lifetime average of 43.5mpg, fun to drive, super comfortable. Just wish it had a bit more power and slightly stronger brakes. Otherwise, I love it.

I hope they really offer AWD as an option instead of forcing you to buy another car with a lot of junk you don't need.

Which is odd. If the new GTI is going to have the same tranny and motor as the current Golf R, why release it so close to the new car's unveiling? EDIT* New car gets the Golf R type motor. Transmission is not AWD. Last edited by Skylab; 06-06-2012 at 10:19 AM. Reason: Oops... |

Most on this site would agree with him. FWD is yawn inducing

There is this crazy thing they have on cars now called an accelerator pedal which allows a person to modulate how much power the car displays at a given time so one does not have to either be stopped or at WOT at all times. You should get out there and try it; it is pretty effective. Oh, the times we live in...........

^I new you would say that...............I call it like I see it/like I experience it. I guess I just don't drive aggresively enough for it to be a problem for me, because it is not; if it was, I would say it. Don't get me started on the MS3s tranny/engine mount/clutch feel stuff........

Still it was a car that handle extremely well with some of the best road feel/feedback of any car I've driven, sometimes better than an Evo 10. |

Feathering the throttle delicately isn't really that much fun when you are trying to pull into traffic and go. I'd put an LSD in my GTI if I really thought it would help, but I'm skeptical.
