I hope they really offer AWD as an option instead of forcing you to buy another car with a lot of junk you don't need.

For MY2011, an APR flash required that the ECU come out of the car to get flashed for the first time. You've got the option of sending it in or taking it to a reseller that can do the flash. I don't think there's a COBB access port type thing or an open source option like Subarus have.

Oh, and get your dremel ready, cause there are security bolts with no heads. Yay, working with VWs is fun.

They do. Right now, it's called the Golf R.

Which is odd. If the new GTI is going to have the same tranny and motor as the current Golf R, why release it so close to the new car's unveiling?

EDIT*

New car gets the Golf R type motor. Transmission is not AWD.

Most on this site would agree with him. FWD is yawn inducing

A well sorted FWD car is way more fun than certain AWD applications (Haldex, non-LSD'd AWD with viscous center diffs, etc.) IMO.
Agree on Haldex, disagree on the other.

OR you could drive to APR HQ in Opelika, AL like I did. Great bunch of guys there!

This quite typical actually. Many manufacturers release special editions at the tail end of production for a given platform to help bolster sales which typically fade over time. I won't be surprised if the new GTI is both faster and cheaper then the current Golf R (even if the new car doesn't have awd).

Looks great. That 1.4 L engine with cylinder deactivation sounds frugal. Pairing it with a 7 speed gearbox makes sense for economy reasons, but also seems expensive.

Nice looking car. I had no idea 2-cylinder operation was mechanically feasible.

If I remember reading correctly, its the only VW still fully manufactured in Germany. From what I've read, they do not plan to cheapen the GTI.

They redesigned the Jetta sedan and left the Sporstwagen alone. But they both come from Mexico. Golf and GTI come from Germany.
