Talking Talked to a GTI owner

while I was getting my dunlop sp 5000 put on today, one of the techs came up to me and was talking to me. he said that the vw's are adding 25hp to every model due to the wrx and he said that he could take me on a race (I don't know which type) but either way I figured racing is bad mmkay, but I just smiled and nodded figuring from waht I've read here adn what I have seen from my car, I can't see that could ever happen, but then again I'm just a newbie, so I don't know anyting

then another tech comes up to me and offers to "give a run" with his car, he points to a later fiero, I looked interestingly and then he tells me he put a chevy 350 into the dang thing!! I was impressed.

Overall, just about everyone at one point or another while they were putting the tires on took a little break to look at the car and some even asked me some questions, ah what fun well that's it for now have fun y'all and speed safely

he said that the vw's are adding 25hp to every model due to the wrx

Uh, what was he a nail technician? The 1.8T got a 20hp boost (30 actual but 20 reported so as not to upset Audi), and the VR6 gets a 28hp boost by the addition of the 24V motor. Nothing at all to do with the WRX.

FYI though, a chipped 1.8T will give a WRX a hell of a run, especially if it's not from a dead stop. I watched one make 175hp/241 lb-ft!!! to the wheels with just a GIAC chip and an exhaust on Saturday. I then drove it, and it would give *me* a run on the highway... and I'll eat up a WRX

You should have seen Kris at tech at the Deven's auto-x.. It was kinda like this: guy approaches, shakes wheel, looks under hood, looks in trunk. Then talks to Kris for 5 minutes about the WRX.... Granted their tech inspection was weak, but there were a ton of people coming up to Kris going: "How do you like the WRX?" doing the quote the hp numbers back to him thing. Can we say a few people have seen the commercials?

I agree entirely that a factory turbo is a great place to start from when tuning a car, but having a good friend who's a big VW nut, I can tell you that he's a little off as to the abilities of his car Seriously, the more recent GTIs are _hefty_ for their size. I think the big appeal of the 1.8T in a golf the ease of the chip upgrade and then the general fit and finish of the interior. The electrical system is another thing altogether

But honestly, the Golf/GTI platform has a couple important limitations -- it's FWD and it has a comparatively tiny wheelbase. It can be a rocket, but it's not my kind of rocket

I'll assume this is the same VWFAN that I know.

What was his? I never really looked at it much.

Heh. It was a Golf GL. My favorite comment was "Put a supercharger on this and it'll give a wrx a run for it's money." That's 2.0L Golf there.

Dunno so much about that. He backed down on that claim pretty quick though. I think I said something about 'how much fuel do those injectors flow again?'
