Desperate For Help, Unbleedable Clutch
Hey guys, so i need to get my car running asap and after putting the motor in the only thing holding me back is the clutch hydraulic assembly. I went to drive the car and the clutch went to the floor. It worked fine before the clutch job. Ive tried bleeding the system but its acting like therea no fluid in the system. I filled the master cylinder and no matter how much vacuum i applied to the slave it would suck 0 fluid. I unbolted the line to the master to see if the vacuum was at the end of the line and it was, it sucked onto my finger. What would cause me not to be able to vacuum bleed the master cylinder? If its broken will it not allow fluid out? Ive heard of people gravity bleeding but i cant even suck the fluid out by force!

Replace the master and slave. They're cheap enough and a couple hundred dollars eliminates them as a problem and gives you new parts.

No. The slave is a super simple piston set up. It should bleed easily, but I don’t think by vacuum. Try getting help to pump brakes style bleeding.

How does the line from the master to slave look? there have been issues with that failing (leaking or collapsing) which will make it not bleed. have one person open the bleeder as or after you push it to the floor, then close it before you lift back up - it should come through eventually.

Once I was bleeding a clutch on my last car and if I tried the traditional method of just opening and closing it while pumping the pedal went totally limp right to the floor, I would have to pull it back up by hand and it never worked.
Finally I found something in a maintenance manual that said to put the hose coming off the bleeder valve into a cup half full of brake fluid (so the hose is completely submerged) and then just bleed like normal. No clue why that makes any difference at all but it worked. I just had to pull the clutch back up by hand once, and then pumping it started to pump fluid properly. |

^I tried it the first time with that car having a tube in a cup like I normally do with brakes.
but it didn't work once i filled the cup halfway with fluid it worked I had one of those "hanes" manuals at the time and it actually said to do that with the cup half full. I still don't see why it matters if you are manually closing the valve each pump with another person in the car, but it wouldn't work that way. |

Thanks all for the input, the old master cylinder was unbleedable and wouldnt even spurt fluid when out of the car and pumped. I bought a dorman master with a bleed nipple on it, i bled it from the slave however with my vacuum bleeder and now my pedal is at full pressure. I held the slave in by hand while using my vacuum, that brought the most air out. The pedal is super stiff without even having to pump the master 20 times.
