I read and watched vids on youtube like many others. No one in my family knew how to drive stick but I was determined. I quickly learned how expensive reckless behavior can get. Three weeks after signing the papers I burned the clutch by performing too many clutch drops so I kicked up a grand or so during Christmas break on that.

After the stratus I owned a 01 passat turbo with a 5spd and a 2012 Chrysler 300 8spd auto...which only lasted 5 weeks before I totaled it. So here I am with the wrx....that needs a clutch

1974 Vw beetle convertible when I was 16 in 2006. All 6 of my cars have been manual .

08 Gti (first)
08 Gli
11 Gti
10 Jetta
06 Accord
03 Wrx (current)

You can see how the older I got the less money I could spend on a car haha. (List in order)

My first car ever driven was a 2001 subaru outback when I was 12 back in 2002. As luck would have it I would own my own subaru 11 years at almost 23 lol.

I learned on a '96 geo prizm and used it for my drivers test. It was my dads. Shortly after, I got a 1987 Chevy cavalier z24 this was my first car and when I REALLY learned how to drive a stick. I'm 32 now and have never looked back to an automatic...except when I have to drive the wife's car!

Talking 2004 Saturn Ion Redline

I was 15 and learned on my dad's 04 redline. It was not the best car to learn stick in considering how low the torque is, but once i got the hang of it it was a load of fun! I later took my drivers test in that car and passed, then 1 week after that I bought my 02 wrx!

I was about 14 in my dads Honda Insight (3cyl, hybrid lol).... learn't in parking lots, than kept asking to go back to "learn more" even though I had perfected it already haha. Had to teach my older sister how to drive stick when I was 16 or 17 (her about 20 at the time).... I prefer stick shifts and frown upon auto's

Fun thread!

Me: 1971 barnyard Mustang that I bought for $300 when I was 13. Finally drivable 2 years later, with '66 289 HiPo, 3 spd, and 4.11. A lot of rubber left on the road from that car, thirty-some years ago.

Daughter: my 2011 WRX was first manual she drove, a few years ago. She says it is much easier to drive since the Stage 1, too.

Son: his first car to EVER drive, earlier this year, was my 2011 WRX. Yeah, starting with a manual!

Not to hijack the thread, but I got the WRX after ~200k miles driving manual 6 speeds. It was soooo embarrassing on the WRX test drive, when I kept trying to shift from 5th to 6th... what a HORRIBLE place to put reverse.

'84 S-10 single cab with the 2.8L carbureted, 4-speed cut off to about 6-7" long and a Hurst 'T' shifter welded on. Exhaust was a cherry bomb ending 6" behind the cab with a 6' bed. She was primer grey with a roll pan and damn near dragging frame static. Also had bucket seats from a Saturn I put in.

Bought the truck at 15 without ever driving a manual. Started the truck up with title in hand and stalled it out backing up. Face cherry red, I fired her back up reving the motor and dumped the clutch to go on from there!

I miss that little truck! Mini's hold a special place in my heart
