I have asked this question on the Legacy Forum but here I might get my answer quicker.....
I own a 91 Legacy Wagon and recently have some problems with it. #3 cylinder seams to be out of order. I changed the spark plug and checked - yes, there's a spark..... still does not fire.... seams to be getting fuel since there's mighty fuel smell from the tail pipe; I can't think of anything else.....
there's something on the intake manifold right over the opening where the spark plug goes in.... could that be it? what is it? how can I check if injector works?

Thanks,

the poor man's way of checking an injector is to put an automotive stethoscope on it (right at the electrical connector is fine) while the engine is running and you should hear it clicking.

A stetoscope is a tool that allows you to hear things that you normally couln't by yourself. What Colin is trying to say is, go out and buy one (it shouldn't be expensive) and put it on the #3 injector and listen for clicks. Clicking would mean that the injector is working, and no clicking- not working. Also what you can do, since you say that there is a strong gas smell from the exaust, you might wanna pull that #3 plug and see if perhaps it's fouled out. If the plug is wet in gasoline it will never fire, so change it. And remember- you need three things for an engine to run- air gas spark

well, you also need compression . Perhaps a bad ring, too? I'd have the compression checked.

well, gas smell is one thing but checking that darn injector another. I changed all the fluids but didn't flush gas tank....... car has been sitting for a while.... I might just have to clean the injector since I know for sure that there is a spark on that cylinder (replaced spark plug and checked again) but I'm not sure if there is gas there. Mechanically it was not giving me any signs prior to this. Something broken would of been noticed I bet. Nothing, it's quiet.

Thanks,

PS. I know what stetoscope is, checking this way seamed to me kind of strange (not anymore though).
