Short ram intake question
I got a OBX sr intake in my rs and realized today the pipe is getting fairly warm and am concern if i might be slowly damaging something, and what can i do to keep the air from getting hot. I don't know what to do it runs next to the engine. Any ideas or suggestions will ge greatly appreciated.
Thanks ahead, The Boostless Wonder

Try touching the iengine. Feels hot right?...Now you know where the heat is comming from.
BTW...it's normal unless the intake is so hot you can't touch it. |

There's not a lot you can do to prevent the intake from soaking up heat in the engine bay. The thing is, the stock intake is plastic, so it doesn't soak heat as fast, and doesn't retain it either, so it never feels as hot. However, the air going thru it is probably just as warm.
It's not going to hurt anything if the intake gets hot, if you want to try to keep the intake air cooler, you could wrap the intake in insulation of some kind, but that will only slow the heat soak, so it will eventually reach the same temperature on a long trip. I use a piece of stainless exhaust pipe for my intake, it gets hot, but hasn't caused any problems in the year and a half i've had it. |

It won't damage anything, since it can't get all that hot relative to combustion temperatures. It will just affect your engine's efficiency and power output (but not by all that much). Wrapping it or insulating it would help that. Also, change from a short ram to a cold air intake, which will give you more power.
And the sarcasm was funny man. You have to admit you kinda set yourself up for it... |

or you can use what's left of the silencer and turn that into a ram air and the intake are will get hot... you can't stop the inevitable. |
