Post Just finished 'sound proofing' my doors.

I didn't have money for dynamat, so I was looking for an alternative. I work in the construction field, so I am in contact with various materials of different natures. What I came across was "Ice and Water Shield'. What it is a thick self- adhesive tar sheet (3 foot wide). I ended up getting about 8 feet for free from a job we did, and decided to install it inside my door panels (looking for less squeaks and rattles, improved speaker sound, and quieter at cruising speeds).
I took apart me door panel (takes only a couple of minutes), Ripped off the poly that was underneath, and exposed the inside of the door.
I had to wipe down the inside since there was some moisture that had collected due to the snow storm I was driving in yesterday. I had a can of Rust Check and decide to spray the bottom and side seems of the door, since it was exposed.
The ice and water shield was easy to cut. I managed to cover about 85% of the inside of the outer skin. I used about 3-4 pounds of material total for both doors.
TEST: I noticed that the doors sound a bit nicer when closing...
They feel considerably heavier.
Speakers can be at a lower volume at cruising speed.
Noticeably quieter at cruising speed!
No more squeaks and rattle (I also used little self adhesive felt pieces in-between the interior door skin and the door itself to combat rattles.)
I recommend this to everybody...
bye

Look into Cascade also. It is vinyl based instead of asphault based. MUCH lighter yet works wonders. I used it in my old GSR.

Is this Ice and Water Sheild stuff available at a local store (Home Depot, Menards - they are "home improvement" stores, dont know what you have in Canada), or only for construction sites? If its available at stores, do you know the general price?

Also, how much is that Cascade stuff? Is it made for car sound deadoning, or just something you found to work?

Ice and water shield is used here in canada often on new houses...So you might have some luck asking at job sites for some left over (i used about 6-7 feet @ 3 feet wide).
It also should be available at home depot, but probably only comes in big rolls (50-200feet), maybe get a bunch of guys and pitch in or something....or try cascade, but i never heard of it....might be good
good luck!
