Getting going again on the build now that my Mendeola suspension is arriving. It changes the front suspension from the 1930 era Volkswagen Bug front suspension to a modern A-arm suspension with swaybar, coilovers and rack and pinon steering. The rear suspension is a set of custom tube trailing arms with Uni-Ball that replace the 944T units and are 2 inches longer which helps move engine transmission weight forward for better weight distribution and handling. Will post Mendeola pictures when the suspension arrives in the next couple days. Right now the chassis is on the operating table to remove old suspension front and rear.

A brief overview:

Tube frame

**Porsche 944T rear suspension with MBT Uni-balls**
This suspension is now being replaced with a Mendeola Signature Motors custom suspension.

Porsche Boxster S brakes, Performance Friction 2 piece rotors front, OEM rear

Rear shot of old MBT Porsche 944T suspension and 996 Twin Turbo wheels and tires. All changing soon...

This also shows how small the car is.

The new suspension arrives 11 Jan 12. Looks worth the wait.

Compared to VW Ball Joint suspension from 1969.

Left front comparison.

Right front view.

Very nice workmanship. Next up cutting off old VW suspension, fixturing and welding this on.

TigWerks is now building a new exhaust header that will place the 20g-xtr low in what would be normally a front mounted position, but in my case is rear mount. Like the 2010 Legacy GT mounting. Pictures as soon as we can!

The Mark 1 exhaust header from Outfront Motorsports in stainless with old 20g for fitting. Not happy with header for my application so having TigWerks build the perfect one!

Now that it's back inside we can get back to work.

Here are some snaps I took from the other day.

The rear Mendeola built suspension with custom two inch wider and two inch longer trailing arms. This moves engine/transmission weight forward to help weight balance and transfer, and allows the use of stock offset Porsche 18 X 12 inch wheels.

Trailing arm without hub and sway bar.

Rear shot with wheel in place shows the reason for the offset.

Side view without wheel.

Side view with wheel.

RSti_Spyder,
Man it's nice seeing those Mendola parts and yeah, they look like they might be worth the wait, or weight rather... heh. It's great that they have showed up and are in proper form it seems.

I too can't wait until I am able to get past this stage in my build. I will be pulling mine all back apart this weekend to start on the cage, but so far have my 05 STI engine package bolted in and up to my 901 trans and have the hydro-clutch conversion all sorted out.

I am curious about your ebrake setup? In that you've converted to 944T Arms did you use the "lanner swans" or like item to convert your ebrake setup to work with the original vw ebrake parts or did you retain the 944T ebrake cables and craft something custom in the cabin?

I like what you've done with your car and look forward to speaking to you about that Red9 package.

Best,
Joshua (aka: icanfly | binarycarnival)

Hey Joshua/Icanfly!

I will be removing the front suspension next week and will weigh all components before I ship them to you, because I too want to know the real answer to the weight difference question. After I install the front suspension we will start bending up some DOM for the roll bar, side bars and windshield hoop. Trying to make summer Autocross season. Luckily our summer is later than most!

How will you intercool this setup? Some type of vertical setup with a shroud?

Turn in Concepts, well this project started 10 years ago as a VW powered dunebuggy for my Daughter like the one my Dad and I built in the 70's. She lost interest and it turned to this... Target is autocrossing by this May. Big push at this point now that we have solved suspension issues with the Mendeola set-up. Too much invested to bail now...

Ciper, Kelly at Tig-Werks is building a custom 321 header that will place the Blouch 20g-xtr low and to the left of the crank balancer. Similar to the Porsche 935 placement. The compressor will exit straight up into a Tig-Werks built intercooler. Being rear engined, the air flow is up and over the rear of the body. The horizontal intercooler will also have two Spal fans, water/meth spray and CO2 spray for autocross use. My ideals are now in Kellys hands. Kelly will get all the parts to start next week in UPS. Very excited to have him involved.

Installing the Centerforce 930 clutch tomorrow and mating engine and transmission. Then to fabricate the engine / transmission mounts.

Thanks for the compliments, it helps me push forward!

if you low mount the turbo you will need a sump to collect oil and feedback to the pan. I have heard rumor that the porsche 930 part that does this is very cheap and reliable. I'll know more in a few months as we'll be needing one ourselves.

The 935 turbo drain is basically a small stainless juice can collector with a male AN fitting for the dry sump suction. This is what we will be doing. Tig-Werks will fabricate that piece also.

This engine has copper suction lines into the collectors.

Awesome. That will be a very short intake run.
I assume the meth is inside the intercooler while the CO2 is outside

Hopefully they stay that way. Just trying to make sure the CO2 does not go into the turbo intake.

Ever consider AWIC? Short intake, good aerodynamics and since youre autocrossing you could use ice instead of the C02 to go beyond 100% efficient. Its also much easier to get an ice refill than a co2 refill. The secondary heat exchanger could be mounted virtually anywhere. I've always had a hard time with consumables you cant easily refill on the fly (like nitrous)
