If you are up in Vermont at all, Sugarbush is doing the downhill mtn bike thing.
Loads of good terrain. Lift takes you up. |

I live a couple minutes from Attitash. Their trails are tight, technical and rocky which I enjoy, but there aren't any fast, wide-open runs.
Sunday River will be reopening for DH which is great news. Anyone know exactly when that's supposed to happen? First I heard August but then I heard next summer. Bretton Woods has lift access again but I haven't gone up there yet. I heard it's fast and not technical but still fun. That's how it used to be when they closed in 1998 (?) or so. I was supposed to ride at Mt. Snow last weekend with friends but I fractured a rib a few weeks ago and it still hurts like hell. I heard the riding was gnarly. |

I currently ride a Demo 9 for DH/FR and a Stumpjumper FSR Pro for my XC/Trail bike. I like Specialized bikes but as a company they kinda suck because they are notorious for screwing over bike shops, especially smaller ones. |

I have a Heckler and its a great bike. I bought it a long long time ago when the Heckler first came out. I hardly ride it at all though.

IMO, carbon fiber and mountain biking don't mix. I prefer to keep CF on the road.

Make sure you get the 20***37; discount at the condo's (black creek sancutary) that they offer to Diablo riders this year. I might come out to Jiminy next weekend, saturday or sunday? The bears are still there, just lying in the bushes right beside the trail this weekend eating the berries. I almost ran one over last year on Dirt Merchant, a mother and 2 cubs were at the bottom of the long wooden ramp, didn't see them untill I was at the top of the ramp. If you go down ask the girl at the counter if she remember people coming in with a blow up sheep needing a patch kit .... |

Thank you guys for this thread. I use to do some downhill in West Virginia, but since moving up here last year I've been unable to find resorts that offer life access and bike rentals.
Between Mt Snow, Jiminy, and Bretton Woods, which location has the best terrain for the Intermediate rider? I am also open to other resort suggestions outside of what has already been mentioned in the thread. |

I will be riding Bretton Woods soon so I'll let you know. It's their first summer since 1998 with lift access, so I'm guessing it's not too developed yet. Their trails probably won't be too technical - more of the fast cruisers with an occasional water bar.
Another consideration for you is Sunday River (if they re-open in August). While some trails were definitely for more advanced riders, they always had some options that were good for less experienced riders as well. |

This may be too small (at 5' 11" you would likely want a Medium if not a Large size frame) and it may be a little too DH oriented to ride "up and down" a hill. I've seen some decent all-mountain type bikes on there over the past few weeks. Giant AC, Cannondale Jekyll, Specialized Big Hit - you find these in the area. Also, if you are looking to spend $1000, you can get a NEW full suspension bike. I know S&W is running a big sale b/c of their new shop in Concord. EMS has a full suspension Ironhorse for $800. Nault's sells new & used stuff at good prices. Gooddales has a few shops in NH and I've been happy with the guys there. Look at local shops and see what they have - you may find a brand new 2005-2007 model for about what some joker on CL would charge you used... |
