Brullen header/cat install question
Edit: The parts are installed My review:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?p=7904114 (original message) Hey all, I just got a nice used brullen header and NEW brullen cat Yay! Currently I have a stromung muffler and stock midpipe so I need to figure out the best way to add on the header/cat, and decide what to do about the midpipe. I 'think' the stromung muffler piping is 2.25" and the brullen piping is 2.5"... so going with a 2.25" or 2.5" midpipe would be fine...? Anyone know about this? My other questions would be, how do the cat and the midpipe bolt up to each other? The cat has a flange on it of course, but there's also a donut thing that I got with the cat that is suppose to weld to the midpipe or something? I was thinking of going to my local exhaust shop to have a new midpipe made since my stock one will suck with the new setup... but will I even be able to install the header/cat right now, to the stock midpipe? Lots of questions. If anyone can give me some general insight, it would be much appreciated. jonathan

Your post is confusing. Do you have the stock RS, brullen or stromung mid pipe?
I would go with 2.25" piping. Keep the low end torque you got. The cat has a flange on it and so does the mid pipe. There are 2 spring bolts connecting the 2 and the donut thing is a gasket. You can replace this if you want but most likely you can resuse it. You will be able to bolt the header/cat setup to your stock mid pipe if the flanges match up. only way to find out is to crawl under your car and find out. |

So, what is the size of the stock midpipe? Like I said, I think my muffler piping is 2.25" so a 2.25" midpipe would be fine as you said, but why would a 2.5" midpipe kill some of my torque? j |

Stock midpipe is 1.75" - IIRC, the Brullens terminate as 2.25".
Anything bigger than 2.25" is bad news for your car - the lack of backpressure will disrupt the exhaust pulses and loose torque. |

Thanks for the responses all. If the brullen piping is 2.25" and so is my muffler's piping... it obviously makes sense to have a 2.25" midpipe made
Do the brullen "quiet" catbacks have a resonator in the midpipe? I'd want to put a resonator in there so the thing doesn't get too loud. j |

i got 2.5inch, although the mathematics of the sizing arent in my favor, the car still feels better than stock. brullen will make any size from 2 inches to 3 inches in 1/4 inch increments. I got "medium sound" resonated. When you take out the cats your gona want a resonator

Right now my stock header/cat/midpipe with the stromung muffler is about as loud as I'd like the car to be. Once I put on the header/cat/bigger midpipe, I'm assuming it will get louder... so should I put a resonator in the midpipe? How do I know what type or size or quality of resonator to ask for (I know nothing about this). I don't want to make the car sound like crap or lose power from having a resonator, I would just like it to be a little quieter if the Brullen headers/cat are going to make it loud. jonathan |

haha na i wasnt saying that puttinh a catback in would take out the cats. I was saying that if you plan to go cat-less in the future a resonator is a good idea because it tends to get raspy w/o it
a resonator really doesnt restrict flow. Its a straight through but its perforated around the inside of the tube. It wont make it louder, just a little deeper |

ilmaestro - The mid-pipe needs to be modified with the supplied receptacle for the gasket to fit on the stock mid-pipe. All of our header packages come with this adaptor piece so that it can be used on other systems.
