so far my only complaint with the XV is that it wasnt fully detailed and waxed when I got it. The shop part was closed and they said theyd give it the full new car detail when I bring it in at 3000 miles.
The problem is- they put a ****-ton of wax on some areas and didnt buff it off. Like the roof. It turns white at night or with condensation. And all the black plastic bits like the antenna base have somehow absorbed the wax (i think) causing the parts to turn a light gray dull color. I'm hoping that some sort of wax stripper may help. I don't wanna use Back To Black- its like armor-all once you use it you have to continue.
Sure beats burning oil though!

it appears subaru changed the specs for oil capacity from 5.3qts to 5.1.
That will make the dipsticks read correctly!

As long as they don't do this to you, I think you're probably ok. Too bad most of the pictures are no longer available. That dude got a pretty bad run-around from the dealer, and it took intervention by Subaru of Canada to sort out the mess.

Its right there in 12-4 in the Specifications section.

I think the quiet change was made so that the dipstick level would be easier to read and all.

It's funny, the next time I change my oil will be the first I'm doing it myself (had free before now), and I was planning to only put 5 qt in and then get up to temperature and check the level because my dipstick has always been high coming from the dealership where I assume they always put in 5.3.

How high was the dispick level on your dealer fills?
My record for highest dealer fill was 6++ quarts. It read well over an inch above the full mark!

My dipstick currently reads ~1/2" above full, from what others have said, that the amount between full and add is 1 qt, that probably is ~0.5 qt overfull.

I'd just stick with 5 quarts even especially now that Subaru lowered the fill amount from 5.3 to 5.1 quarts. That's what I plan to do from now on... If I ever get my car back :/

I've been using 5.3 quarts of Amsoil OE 0w20, but now I'm just going to buy 5 quart jugs of M1 or Penzoil platinum. No more measuring out .3 quarts... No muss, no fuss.

I'm wondering what the reasoning is behind that other than a lot of people's dipsticks read over full with 5.3 quarts?

it makes sense to me, .2qts = about 6oz, which is what i have noticed it takes to get it to read about 1/4" over full from full dot

It's either that or Subaru tweeked the 2.0 fb for the '13+ models because of oil consumption concerns and now they only require 5.1 quarts of oil. Who knows...

Random guess: 5.3 was the volume required for a bone-dry engine; 0.2 is somehow being retained in the system during oil changes, so a wet system only requires 5.1?

Yep, from my service manual I got last year:

Total capacity at overhaul - 6.2 qt
when replacing oil and filter - 5.3 (as listed in my service manual)
when replace oil only - 5.1

Got a bit of good news this morning. My dealership called to let me know that they expect to have the rest of my engine parts within the next couple of days. Hopefully they'll be able to get to it right away once they receive the parts.

Thanks man. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smooth and I don't run into any issues when I get it back like some others have.

So I got to get a look at my torn-apart engine today while I was at the dealership getting the oil changed on the loaner car. The amount of carbon build up was rediculous! The tech assigned to fixing my car said he's never seen anything like it before on an engine with only 30k miles. He told me it looked like an engine that would have about 200k miles on it that constantly burned bad gas. Still waiting for one of the heads to come in from back order so they can reassemble and get it back to me. Eight weeks now and counting...

Oh yeah, the tech also told me that Subaru has 'unofficially' admitted the problem to inner circles and has quietly implemented a fix at some point. Also, the majority of all the oil consumption problems occur in cars with the 5MT for some reason.
