Default 2007-2008 OFFICIAL Fantasy Football Thread!!!

As some of us start making cheatsheets and considering draft position, targeting certain players lets talk about issues/draft questions/player projections going into the FF Draft season.

I'll start it off...I'm in one 12 team league that I've been in for 10+ years. This year we are changing to a keeper format where you can keep up to 3 players at the end of the year (but lose a draft pick next year). Scoring is pretty standard, but 6 pts for ALL TDs (including thrown), and no points per reception. We start 1QB/2RB/3WR/1TE/K/DEF

I have the 7th pick in the draft. With the 6 pts for thrown TD (vs. 4 in many leagues) and the keeper format now, would I be making a huge mistake not taking Peyton Manning should he be available? I am typically a draft best running back in first round type of mentality.

Thoughts?

I've always gotten the shaft, as far as draft position is concerned. I am usually in the position of taking a QB first, as most of the RB's are gone. So I say Manning is a solid choice, I had him last year and he did well for me.

Eh, I'm not a big fan of drafting a QB in the 1st or 2nd round of the draft. I think better values can be found later in the draft. Besides, I bet Palmer and Brady have better statistical years.

I would imagine Brady is gonna have a big year. He may however need some time to get used to the new speed he has.

Subscribed. The league I am in (similar as OP, non-keeper, no TE, any non-position TD is worth double, and a pt for every 10 yards on a TD scoring play) and think Manning would be a good get at 7.

Our draft order is going to be selected in the next week or so. Draft always 2 days before the first NFL game.

Subscribed.

I'm back in a yardage league that I have not participated in for 2-3 seasons. I don't even know who's on what team anymore. Rookies? I know less about them.

I'm in a 14-team keeper league. Can keep 3 guys, but you have to take them in the round they were drafted in last year -2 (i.e. if drafted in the 10th, have to take him in the 8th). Keepers who were picked up as free agents are taken in the 10th this year. I'm looking at keeping Santonio Holmes (will need to use my 13th round pick), Kellen Winslow (10th), and Lavernues Coles (5th).

We have finely tuned the point scoring system so that (in our 14 team league) more teams can be competitive. Good WRs have almost as much value as good RBs. Positions are: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, Flex, Flex, Def (no kickers because they're queer).

Scoring:
6 points for TDs, 2 points for XPs, bonuses for length of TD
.03333 points for every passing yard (1 pt per 30 yards)
.1 points for every rushing and receiving yard (1 pt per 10 yards)
points per reception -> TE = 1.5, WR = 1, RB = 0.5
-2 for first INT, -3 for all others
DEF - 1pt for fumbles and INTs, .5pt for sacks, bonus (up to 7 points) for yardage allowed.

Oh, and there's no head-to-head; it's an all-play league. If you score the most points for the week, you go 13-0 for the week. If score the second most, you go 12-1, etc, etc.

This is key for me too. He may drop to me in 7. I don't want to deal with a holdout issue, but he's pretty valuable at that spot. I dunno...

OK we changed the rules for keeper. We didn't know any better and our rules were stupid they are now as follows:

Can't keep anyone in rounds 1-4
Can keep for up to three extra seasons.
Each player you keep costs you a draft pick one round higher than where he was drafted and it escalates each year you keep. e.g. a 6th rounder costs you a 5th to keep, then a 4th, then can't be kept because he's a 4th.

So now my first round pick is easier. Best RB available pretty much. I think the 7 spot in a 12 man league is too high for Peyton. So I'll be looking at Willie Parker or Brian Westbrook. Hopefully Addai drops down to me, because I think he's gonna have a big year.

Well my draft was this weekend and turns out he dropped to 9th overall. Could be a steal at that spot, but still a big gamble. I could have taken him at 5th, and if he wasnt holding out I definitly would have, but decided to go with Westbrook instead. Draft more or less went LT, jackson, alexander, gore, westbrook, parker, addai, rudi, LJ. A solid back is hard to get anywhere else but the first and second round imo.

^^^^This worries me too. I'm leaning towards Westbrook. If Addai drops I'm taking him. Westbrook has never had a healthy season either.

The latest word is that LJ and the Chiefs are close:

I win either way. If someone above me takes him, then I don't get tempted and probably get Addai. Otherwise I probably take him and hope this gets settled.

Honestly past LT and Steven Jackson, I think it is a crap shoot.

Totally:

LJ-Contract Issues, Priest back in camp and may vulture carries.
Gore-last season, while huge was his first healthy one. He's held together with duct tape and chewing gum-oh and his hand is now broken
Westbrook-lots of past injury issues
Willie Parker-swollen knees
Shawn Alexander-getting older, injury questions
Edgerrin James-awful last year--may break through again this year though.

tons of questions...

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER TAKE Manning in the first round.. you will never win a championship that way unless your not playing in a very skilled league...

The LJ situation is looking a lot better so it seems.

Quote:
(Aug. 12, 2007) -- Based on contact talks in recent days, the Kansas City Chiefs and running back Larry Johnson are bridging their differences and getting closer to a long-term contract extension.

The two sides have engaged in serious contract talks in recent days, making considerable progress as recently as Aug. 11, and further talks will take place in the coming days aimed at ending Johnson's holdout.

But the tone between the two sides is markedly different than it was a month ago, before training camp kicked off. Both sides have become more realistic in their demands, both recognize how important it is to get a deal done before the season, and both sides think they can put aside their differences and strike a deal.

It is the first time in a long time that there's a reason to be optimistic. However, it also should be noted that negotiations are at a critical stage, where contract talks could result in a final breakthrough or a signifcant setback.

Working to the advantage of both sides is the track record of Chiefs president Carl Peterson. When deals are getting close, Peterson has a history of getting them done. Both sides are hoping the same will happen now, with the Chiefs getting back the running back they need and Johnson landing the long-term contract he has craved.

Johnson has been a holdout at training camp as he seeks an extension to the seven-year contract he signed in 2003, a deal in which the final two years can be voided after the final game of the 2007 season because of playing time incentives. Johnson is scheduled to earn $1.7 million this season, and is being fined more than $14,000 for every day he misses.

The 27-year-old Johnson rushed for 1,789 yards and 17 touchdowns on an NFL record 416 carries in 2006.

Between the people getting kept and who will be drafted in front of me, by the time I get to draft in the first round (#11), the following RBs will be gone:

LT, LJ, Steven Jackson, Shaun Alexander, Brian Westbrook, Willie Parker, Rudi Johnson, Clinton Portins, Reggie Bush, Laurence Maroney, Maurice Jones-Drew, Frank Gore, Joseph Addai, Cedric Benson, Marion Barber, D'Angelo Williams, Ahman Green, and Brandon Jacobs.

Yikes.

That I'd be way more worried about then the contract. That O-line scares me this year as a chiefs fan. So I myself don't even know if I'm going to pick up LJ on my team. Especially now because Damien Mcintosh and Kyle Turley are listed as a week to week injury. With Mcintosh out for at least 4-6. So just be careful with LJ. He might run crazy this year...he might not.
