Default Which is the better of these two wheels?

This is for the STi. The stock 17" BBS vrs. SSR competitions? Wnat to know about finis, weight, and strength, if anyone can comment. I'm thinking of getting a set of SSR comps in either 17 or 18 because 1) they fit and 2) they look decent.

Seriously though why would you wanna change the BBS wheels? They are so nice! But if you did want to to trade em you wouldnt have a hard time getting them off your hands.

They are nice. I'm keeping them. I live in Canada and need two sets of rims. I have the BBS on now as my winter rims and we only get a few bad days a year where it really snows hard. Most times it's just cold as hell so I can keep my BBS in good shape with winter rubber for the cold temperatures.

Not sure I would say either is better, I would say more so equal in respects of how it's manufactured, as well as finishes. But on the other hand the stock BBS is only available in 17" and a 7.5" width and is about 17-18 lbs. Whereas the SSR Comp is available in both 17" and 18" sizes, and both are in a 8.5" width. Also with the SSR 17" it's about 2 lbs lighter per a wheel (not sure on the weight of the 18"). Lastly with the width of the wheel being 1" wider for the SSR's it will allow a greater choice of tire sizes.

I personally don't think I will be getting another set of 17's when I do purchase wheels (most likely be 18's and wider than 7.5"). With that said I wouldn't bother buying the SSR's in a 17" size (since the SSR and BBS are on the same quality of wheels). The only benefit is the different style wheel and it's 2 lbs lighter.

Just get the Gram Lights......

Default wheels

SSR competitions are very light wheels. In 17.75, the same size as the bbs's, they weight actually 13 lbs which are about 4.5 lbs lighter each wheel. BIG difference especially when it comes to rotational inertia BUT it will not clear the brembos. you have to get 8.5 inch which is still 2 lbs lighter each wheel yet u have the benefit of a much wider wheel. the ssr comptetions coming out in 18.85 weighs 15.8 lbs which is truly amazing for a 18 inch wheel being 8.5 inches wide. SO i think SSR's are one of the best wheels manufactured and on my top 3 list of all time

When are these SSR's due out? And are there any other SSR's in 18" that will fit an STi now?

SSR's competitions will be available by the end of this month from Tirerack and SSR type C's(almost the same wheel just few cosmetic differences) are out already for the STi. I had gramlights 57f's on my turbo civic which are forged and light and loved them but SSR are lighter. They both are great wheels, just a matter of preference.

please people ..... get over this Type-C vs. Competition comparison ......

they are the same wheel but, the Competitions are for the US market .... the type C's are for the Japanese market

and yes there are differences because of the markets they are for

I weighed my BBS wheels rather carefully and came up with 15 pounds per wheel.

BUT, there are no differences that would prevent someone in the US from using them on a USDM STi. THE DIFFERENCES ARE ONLY COSMETIC. As my friend zmw has posted before, and I quote, "they are virtually the same wheel".

No one is really trying to start the whole type c vs. competition thing. Is it not true that the competitions are not available right now this moment and that they will be available later this month? And are not the type C's available? I was just trying to help someone out and not start a debate. And if I did come out that way... i apologize.
