Ultimate Racing GT42R "low boost"
Hey guys,
This passed weekend we completed some "low boost" runs on our good friend and co-worker Sal's WRX. He is running our prototype GT42R turbo kit. Here are the specs on it: - 2002 WRX - 2.5L Built Bottom End - WRX Heads w/ JUN 272 Cams, and Cam Gears (aggressively tuned) - Ultimate Racing Prototype GT42R Turbo Kit - Reversed Intake Manifold - Ultimate Racing FMIC - Ultimate Racing 1260cc Fuel Injectors and Rails - Ultimate Racing Surge Tank Fuel System - STI 6spd - AEM EMS - Sunoco 94 + Meth Injection We had installed a 3psi spring into the wastegate to obtain a low boost load row so that we could easily apply boost compensation. Wastegate spring maxed out at 25psi and we could not get any more out of it. Far too difficult to change the spring out of the boiling hot wastegate on the dyno so we called it quits for the day. We'll be changing out the spring another time and hopefully throw some serious boost at the GT42R. With 25psi right now we're really only tickling the GT42R. Notice it's pulling past 8500rpm and still carrying power? I believe that run I had actually spun it to 8700rpm but the dyno isn't showing that. With a 2000rpm power band that averages 600+whp it's a beast on the street. **UPDATE (Engine Bay Pics)** Sorry for the dirty engine bay, but I wanted to get some pics out, so you can have a look. That's right, but we were using AEM's boost control solenoid. At 70% duty, it wouldn't give us any more than 25psi. So we'll be changing that out in the near future.

Prior to cam gear tuning, we had quite a bit of power down low, but a sloping top end. Sal isn't what we call a "lag baby", and demanded all top end power so that's what we gave him. Darryl www.ultimate-racing.com Last edited by Ultimate Racing; 09-17-2007 at 12:44 PM. |
