Default 2005 STi full swap into 97-01 GC

Alright guys, I was in an accident in my 05 STi while switching insurance companies and I'm considering swapping into a GC, 96-01.

I'm wondering if there is a go to thread on the topic.

Things I should know?

I want to swap everything over including interior. I know door cards don't fit.

Will I have an air bag light? Do all swap over?

Will I have a CEL if I remove my ABS block since mine caught fire?

Thanks guys!!!

Well I thought 97 on because I love the front end they come with from factory. That's simply it haha.

Really just trying to get ideas on how do the resistors for the air bags that's I won't be using and how I would do the ABS as far as lines go.

if your wanting to swap into a gc, get familiar with rs25.com, great wealth of knowledge, and the 93-01 chassis are the same, various trim differences between the body, interior and some of the gc models come fwd so research what you are starting with- and ideal find would be a 95 or older ( coupe, sedan or wagon, which ever is your choice) due to obd1 compliance, and find a low~ish mileage L and swap everything over, the front end is easily swappable between the early models and the late models, a 93 can be made to look exactly like an 01 inside and out very easily.

Yeah, I do need to get on there soon! Everything interior will be from my 05 except the door cards is my plan from what a friend told me, mostly everything but the door cards go in. That's about all I found. I'll make sure to get more info!

There are some really tough things to work through but you can do it.
I have a 2004 swapped into a 99.
I'd look at: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f145/t125...oke-r-sti.html
The man that did the work is named Taylor and he did it right.
I just bought the car from him last month and I have to say it's a amazing swap.
The whole interior and everything was done including the carpet. He just had someone do custom work for the cloth in the door panels to match.
The other thing most people call out an issue with is making the dash mount up seamless against the door jam. If you need pictures of anything let me know. I can post them to www.subaru25b.com I've got a few GC8 types I own now.

Ya get on RS25.

For an OBD2 donor you will probably want an OBD2 car, so an 98-01 L or RS.

Airbag stuff is separate, and will only be affected if you swap the dash or steering wheel.

Basically the STI harness has remaining GC accessories spliced on. Cluster, fuse and relay boxes, pedals (way easier to use a manual GC pedal setup) and other accessories. STI harness is used for ECU and engine. Your STI DBW throttle pedal bolts right in with an OEM adapter that costs $12z

I personally would not bother with the dash as they never line up perfectly, but to all their own.

If you use the STI steering rack you need a steering knuckle adapter. Don't bother trying to swap the STI steering column.

Take the complete sub frames from your STI and swap em over. They will bolt right up.

You will need 90-91 legacy rear Tophats to make your STI rear springs bolt into the GC chassis. I have the part number somewhere.

There are a couple threads on radiators, but the STI radiator will fit. Read up on that.

That's pretty much it. PM me if you want any details

Good point there.
The STi will fit and I havent found any reason to not just use the stock one. I went back to the stock one myself because of space issues with front of the engine and the fans. This is because most aftermarket ones are thicker... obviously I guess.

Hi, have an 04 sti drivetrain with 05 sti suspension components with 5x114 hubs. Right now my pain in the butt is front 05 sti struts with 99 Impreza strut mounts.
and the rear are 99 impreza struts (the bottom sleve bolts on to 5x114 hub carrier.) if you were to do 05 sti rear struts then you will need to figure something out and let me know lol. i'm pretty sure there is a "one best way" to address this with 05 sti parts. i just havent came around to it. (so if anyone is able to help us lol... ahem) other than that.
i recommend to sway over complete main engine harness with fuse boxes. and solder the door/window/sunroof/mirror harness from gc8 to the sti harness.

It has been mentioned already in this thread bud, as well as elsewhere on the forum in the past.

GD struts in GC body: front Tophats are fine, need 90-91 legacy rear Tophats. Done deal
