2006 STI: Main bearing worn out, best solutions?
2006 STI has roughly 110K miles. Took it in for a service few thousand miles previous, cylinder #2 had broken valve and spark plug. They also did general 100K maintenance (replaced timing belt, water pump, and tune up). Cost roughly 2.8K.
Engine was making noise and took it back. They said the main bearing was worn due to excess pressure from broken valve. They say I need a new engine. Is there any other solution besides a rebuilt or new engine? If not, what would be the best route to go; replace with stock engine and components or upgrade. If upgrade, what should I upgrade and where should I take it? What would the cost be of stock replacement compared to other solutions? Thanks for the help. I live in the Bay Area, if you could recommend a shop or two I would appreciate it. |

LIC up in Novato is a great shop. GST in Hayward. I hear Auto HQ is good but have no experience. Same for Speed Element. Start with the first two D they will recommend closer shops if needed
