Exclamation music on the radio, music on the radio, music on the radio, DEAD AIR

well that was exciting.. i'm in the production studio downstairs just browsing OT.. i'm voicetracked on the station upstairs and monitoring it to make sure i'm running on time. all of a sudden *BLINK* no audio.. i run upstairs. one of the hard drives crashed. oops. ran the show on CD's until the arrays came back up.. back to normal now, but that was a nice little way to elevate the pulse

I love brand new radio stations, they have no advertising for the first few weeks. No DJs talking about nothing, either.

if i ever decide to start playing powerball and i happen to win, the first thing i'm going to do is find your street address and have an STi delivered to it without telling you. that would be pretty f'ing hilarious.

it would be even funnier because before they took the car to you, i would have them drop it off at my place and i would pay a bunch of fat sweaty guys to get naked and sit in it on a hot day with the windows up.

jack, fred, mike, etc. are all actually variants on a new radio format that's probably going to do really well.. the basic premise of the format is "we'll play whatever the hell we feel like playing."

i'd love to work for one..

. . . as long as it charted on the Billboard Hot 100. i personally find those stations annoying as hell. the novelty of hearing the macarena in a sandwich with depeche mode and bon jovi only lasted about one car ride for me.

the one in philly ("Ben FM") doesn't have any live people on-air and probably never will. barely has any imaging or production, either. they just have j.peterman from seinfeld doing drops and crap.

For some reason I get all excited whenever there's dead air on the radio or TV. I can't change the station either until it comes back. It's like I want to be there because I think something awesome is about to happen. Or I will hear someone get fired, I dunno. Acutally sometimes I think there's about to be a big announcement to seek shelter or something.

I like the use of "some-"

I remember one epic dead air experience, WXRK, K-rock in NYC, had a cd player skipping on the same track for about 15 minutes. I was glued to the radio, just waiting for the bumbg explanation.

one of the first rules in radio is to never mention technical difficulties over the air. just fix it and keep going like nothing ever happened.

I once got locked out of the station too. I had to run down to the circle K to call my boss so he could let me back in.

Luckily I had the CD player on Repeat, so everyone got to hear "I Touch Myself" for 40 minutes straight!

I know, it totally blows my mind. It was a long ass song too, it might have been Tool. About 2/3 through the song, it would skip back to the beginning. I'm sure someone got reamed out for that one.

they just started one of those here in atlanta, 92.9 DAVFM. it's pretty cool, they play newer alternative, 90s alternative and rock, and classic rock. thankfully they leave out the macarena and top 40 BS.

They probably just thought it was a Linkin Park/Tool Remix.

yeah.. not much of the music is of the "uber underground, i listen to music you've never even HEARD of so i'm a better person than you" variety, but a lot of is is stuff you wouldn't necessarily expect to hear on the radio..
