New rims for 2000 Subaru Outback
Hey guys,
I want to get some new rims for my 2000 subaru outback. I don't want anything stupid and ricer looking. I just want something different and for the time that I still have this car I want it to stand out and look a bit better than what it does now. I don't want to spend to much but I have found the rims I want, i'm just having some trouble finding the right tires. I picked out these Drag DR-19's in 18's with a width of 7.5. I believe the tire size for this rim is 225/50/18. I really love the Nankang NS-II but they don't make one in that tire size. They make one in 225/45/18 but not 225/50/18. Would it still fit that rim or should I just not take any chances? I don't have that much money, im 19 and in college so I'm not rich lol. If you guys know of any rims with the same style and cheaper, let me know. I don't really care much for name brand, as long as the rim is good, as well as the tire. Drag DR-19 rims in 18x7.5 Nankang NS-II tires in 225/45/18 This is not my subaru, but this is how the rims look in person CLICK HERE

This is probably going to get moved over to tire and wheels forums by the Mods, but wheels look good and never heard of that brand name tire.
By the way what is your actual budget? Are these tires going to perform well for the summer in like traction wise like wet and dry roads? These are some questions you can get answered in another forum and look on tirerack and see what goes from there. Good luck! |

Nankang is a new brand that is not very popular but I hear they are great tires. Anyways my budget isn't much, the cheaper the better. I asked my mechanic friend and he told me that those tires would fit on the rim but I would be at risk by bending and/or scratching the rim. The ride may not be so good either.
I guess i'm just going to wait a little longer and buy the Hankook Ventus V4 tires. Their $120 each but they look like really nice tires and the reviews are great. They will also fit the rim perfectly because they are 225/50/18 Last edited by Tony05; 11-19-2010 at 05:11 PM. |

I have 225/45/17 on my OEM BBS. This is the OEM tire size. My BBS are off an 05 STi so they are 17x8's.
I'm not sure if you know what the numbers mean but the first one 225 is the width of the tire. The Second one is the aspect ratio (50, or 45 in my case) the wider you go on the tire with the same aspect ratio the taller the tire will be. The last number is the diameter of the wheel the tire is being mounted on (18). With a 225 width 45 aspect ratio should be fine. |

You don't "love" nankangs. They are all you can afford. They aren't a new brand by any means either, they've been around for about 10 years (maybe longer?), and have always constructed a completely crap tire.
Those tires are...crap. There are good cheap tires, you just need to do your research (fed 595's?). |

It would fit the wheel fine, but would throw his speedometer and odometer off by 2.5%. Since the "correct" +2 tires (225/50-18) are available it seems silly to buy the wrong size. Quote:

Unless you're dead set of the Drag wheels, my suggestion would be to find some 17" take-offs in the Classifieds here. Some 225/55-17s will cost $100-150 less than 225/50-18s, and there will probably be a better selection of tires, too. |

Thanks for all of that ^^^^ but I have my mind set on the nankangs because they are cheaper. I drive an outback so im not looking for performance, I just want tires that will be fine and look good with the rims. I don't want 17's because that would be to small for me and just pointless to go up 1 inch from OEM in my opinion.
