well, I have a ver. 3 RA trans that we could do a test fit on...I just have the trans for my little NA beater build that I have in the plans.

I can also do side by side of a pre 98 and post 98 NA trans side by sides...I don't have my pull style WRX trans anymore. That sold with the dogbox.

Thanks guys, I'm glad to hear so much positive feedback!

I'm considering a V4 RA DCCD box that will eventually go to PPG's and these braces are appealing.

Chris.
I have a v3 non-ra box and it seems like the plate will fit just by holding it up to the side of the trans. There are major differences in the bellhousing and bolts along the top & bottom of the case so some of those spots are different as well between the 4 and 8 bolt cases. I've looked at pictures of 8-bolt RA boxes, and I can't really see any differences externally between RA/non-RA... So if there are differences between RA and non-RA boxes, I don't think they are major.

Bolt locations are the same though, so if the reinforcement plate doesn't fit properly, it's only a matter of machining the spacers to a different legnth/offset before welding them on and getting bolts of the proper length. So basically, even if the design I have doesn't fit the 4 bolt cases, then I'll make an optional one that does for the same price.

When I get home this evening I'll be sure to crawl under my car and get some measurements done to confirm if the plate will fit without changes, so you fellow 4-bolt pull-clutch guys stay tuned and I will get you a solid answer on that one soon .

Dylan has the original pre-production sample and a bunch of transmissions laying around, so I'll see if I can't also talk him into putting it up to a few different transmissions to see what models it looks like it will fit on as-is.

Update: The dimensions on my '97 4-bolt case are the same as my '02 8-bolt case where the reinforcement plate bolts up. Again, the tubular front diff housing brace won't fit, but it looks like the main reinforcement plate will be a direct fit on the older 4-bolt transmissions.

I talked to him this afternoon in fact... He requested that I work on a second front diff brace for the passenger's side of the transmission as well due to reports of the front diff basically being torn out of the bearing races on really high horsepower cars. I have the design down for the driver's side diff brace and now I'll be brewing up a design to prevent deformation of the case on the other side mainly targeted for customers with high horsepower applications and after-market gears.

As far as the plate reinforcement goes, Jeff wasn't in when I called, so Dylan wanted to get a chance for both of them to take a good look at my latest design and throw some ideas around. I'll probably give him a quick ring tomorrow to see if we can firm up the last design and distribution details on that plate reinforcement.

Alright guys, here's some more eye candy to keep everybody up to date. Looks like I've nailed down the final design for the driver's side diff brace and I've attached a couple of photos of the pre-production part. As for the main reinforcement plate, I'm just waiting to hear back from Dylan to see how we want to go forward on it.

Damn, I really like the way these are turning out thus far. I didn't think they would be this aestheticly pleasing.

Glad you like it! Told you guys I'd make them look nifty once I got the basic layout done

Now all I need to do is finish up the jig for the driver's side diff brace, and start working on the passenger side diff brace that Dylan requested. I already have 10 reinforcement base plates made, so I'll try to get in touch with Dylan/Jeff today to get their ok on the reinforcement design before I weld up the cross bracing and spacers for the first 10, and we can start getting this show on the road!

Haven't had a chance to see if it will fit the newer push-style clutch cases yet. My guess would be that the main reinforcement plate probably does fit, though I'm not sure if there are major differences on the bellhousing that might warrant a design change for the diff braces though.

Either way I'll be checking with Dylan to see if he has any 06/07 cases laying around that he could check the parts against before they are released. I'll let you 06+ guys know how things fit as soon as find out.

Alright, I've been getting a bunch of questions about production status, and it looks like I'm pretty much ready to get things going.

I'll be sending a final production sample of the reinforcement plate to DS1 shortly so they can get some pictures and start a vendor thread on that part. I've double-checked installation clearances with the plate in the car and everything looks good. Jeff agreed that we could roll with the plate design as it stands. I'll have the first run of 10 units built and ready to go on stand-by at the end of the week, and I'll go ahead and put in an order for all of the hardware to cover the first run.

Once DS1 recieves the production sample, we can work out distirbution details and I'll pretty much hand the show over to Dylan at that point.

Thanks again to everybody for all of your interest and feedback.

Any way we can get ds1 in here to give us some feedback about this thing? I'd really like to hear their opinion on it. Also, any type of ETA? Don't break any vendor rules though, i can go to pm if needed

DS1's production sample of the reinforcement plate is actually hanging in my paint enclosure and the clear coat is curing as I type (about a 7 hour cure time before it's good to send off). I'll pack it up tonight and send it off tomorrow morning via UPS. So Dylan will have the production part in his hands probably by early next week.

As far as I know, the loose plan so far is that Dylan and Jeff will get a look at it and if they approve of the final build quality and fit & finish (I'm not too worried, it looks very nice and fits perfectly), Dylan will likely start up a vendor thread on it.

The first run of 10 is almost complete and then I just need to line them up and paint them, plus I have a little bit of a lead time on waiting for the bolts. All & all, it shouldn't be much longer

Then I'll move on to finalizing the diff braces.

Sounds to me like I'll be able to pick these things up from DS1. (As the are only a stone-throw away from me.)

I'm hoping for that to be the case sooner than later. His sample is on it's way. Once I get the go ahead, I'll order up the bolts to match the demand, and it should be smooth sailing from there.

Thanks, they are actually coming out nicer than I expected when I started this project.

Just another quick update for you all: I wasn't super-happy with the clear coat on Dylan's sample to be honest. Looks ok, not the end of the world, but I had to spray it on really thin since it's finally turning into winter here in California. I was getting runs in the finish trying to spray in the cold with the 2:1 paint to reducer ratio I was using before. I played around with some paint last night (the air coming out of the compressor was about 46 degrees) and with the heat lamps on in my paint enclosure the clear finally came out really really nice with less reducer. I have to use more clear with a lot less reducer and it takes a bit longer to cure, so it's a tiny bit more expensive on the material costs, but it won't affect the final price.

I know it's taking a while, but everybody has been really patient, and I appreciate that... I want make sure I get all of the fine tuning (like the problem above) ironed out so you guys get a really consistant product. Thanks again.
