2000 Subaru Outback Automatic... Please Help!!!
I have a co-worker who took his car to Express oil change (here in Birmingham, AL) and after the oil change, he drove his car to Florida for Xmas vacation.
On his way down to Florida, his car broke down in Macon, GA(approximately 250 miles) where the car was in-operative. He took his car to Jim Burke Subaru here in town and found out the his front ring gear teeth were broken. Apprently they say its due to harsh driving.. but my co-worker is a family man and going on a vacation with his family. Dealer are saying it will cost $1900 to fix (+450 on towing). Upon investigation, Express oil change admitted that they accidentally drained transmission fluid. But denied draining or filling the front diff. fluid. They put ATF+3 into the tranny and denied into the diff. When Jim Burke inspected the car, front diff fluid was over filled by almost a quart. And since my friend purchasing the car back in May 2003, he never took the car anywhere else except Express Oil Change (EOC). I've talked with the EOC, and the manager admitted that they should of checked the diff fluid level... which they should of checked it since 2003.. At this point, they are unwilling to take responsibility for this mishap.. Oh, when this oil change took place, it took them an hour at the shop. which is very unusual. Please Post your comment as what might of cause this Ring Gear Teeth to break. I think possibility of wrong fluid or over filling of the diff gear fluid. Causing overheating.. as my co-worker told me that they started to hear sound coming out around Atlanta, GA area and eventurally car dying in Macon, GA. ' Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, a cheaper place to get this replaced. Oh, also, want to know if there is one drain plug for both the diff and auto tranny?? Also, if they add auto tranny into the diff and how easy that might be to do.. thanks! PHIL
