Drunk dude did the same thing to me around last summer. "What is that, a Kia?" "Nah, it's a Subaru" "Oh, a baby Subaru"

I kinda like that no one knows what my car is lol

Now, while I DO get annoyed when CAR people (mechanics/customer service/etc) either at shops or dealerships don't at least have a ballpark idea of what my car is... I don't apply the same rules to everyone I meet.

I really couldn't care less if the general population on the street knows what make/model/year/etc my car is. Just because I care about cars (and even I can't identify them all on the road), doesn't mean others do. Seriously. Would you think it's fair if someone got upset at you for asking what new Ford they drove, and it turned out to be a Chevy? Come on.

I've mistaken plenty of car makes/models if they're either new or I've never seen them before. And Subaru (even though growing), still isn't that big. Get off your high horses.

I mean, yeah, sometimes it's a funny story because of something specific they say or do... but really, if you're just posting because you're upset or unsettled...

Regardless if he didn't know what it was, you just made a guy feel stupid for saying you have a nice car. You're a dick.

This could actually be posted in the 'you know you drive a wrx/STi thread when...'

Damn rattles, clunks, road noise, squeaks and a 1000 other sounds no other machine on the planet makes.

Thank God for aftermarket stereo's.

My previous bugeye had a cutout on the downpipe, right behind the turbo. Cruised up and down Woodward during the Dream Cruise one year, and as I came to a stop next to a group of muscle car owners, one looked at me and said "What the hell do you have under the hood of that thing?!" I told him it was a 2.0L 4-cylinder, and he responded "Well it sure as hell doesn't sound like it." Sometimes I do miss that cutout, but then I remember how much of a pain in the ass it was.

Once upon a time, I was parked on the side of the street. A lady walking with her child passed by my car, noticed the rally pigs on my side view mirrors. She said, that is soo cute! I like your stickers of those dogs. I said haha yea thanks!

Little did she know, they were pigs. Not sure how you mistaken that with the snot nose..... but its all in good fun. I have gold huck gee skulheads now...... You can't mistaken them for dogs!

You joined just to post that? Hahaha, just messing with you.

But all kidding aside, I'm pretty amused when I get that kind of comment too, when people say anything along the lines of "Oh you must be rich to drive that car". Although honestly, when I think about it again, it might not be a luxury 50k+ car, but for my age group it is a bit of a pricey car (25-30k isn't cheap for most 24 year olds).

Do you have any pics? I never heard of anyone painting the stock 5 spokes white and am curious as to how they look. Thanks!

At the autoparts shop, young guy in front of me is buying parts for his BMW. Guy behind the counter points to my car and says "See that Rex? Now that's what you need to get."

i get similar reactions when my coworkers find out i have 3 cars (i rotate them during the work week), but in reality if you add all their street values together, they add up to a new civic/accord/etc. people drive new civics/accords/etc all the time!

I would've responded with, "no, it's a series of tubes," regardless of how dated the reference is.

I had one of those conversations that you just have to walk away from today.

Him "Nice looking ride, is it a V6?"
Me "Thanks, but no it's a 4 banger."
Him "All that noise and no go? What is it with you guys these days?" (it has a very quiet cat back)
Me "Well, it's got a turbo, so it scoots pretty good"
Him "No chance it can keep up with my ride, V6 baby!" Points to his Toyota Highlander
Me "Um... Ya... I think you might be surprised...."
