Dropping the oil pan
Looking at it from the bottom, it appears to me my 2002 WRX oil pan should drop out after removing the fasteners and sliding forward a bit.
Am I correct on this presumption, or will more need to be removed? My only other experience in this area is my Integra (drops out) and my miata (subframe in the way, have to lift engine) I did some heavy searching last night but did not come up with solid results. TIA, - b |

Don't know if you still need this, but the oil pan is a bit of a PITA. I took out the exhaust manifold and beat the piss out of it with a rubber mallet and screwdriver (at the seals) and it eventually came out. Once you crack the seal it gets real easy. That factory gasket is TOUGH.

i can't seem to find it in the manuel the exact detail on how to remove it, but unclemeat is right.....it's going to be tough to seperate the oil pan from the block. this is because subaru uses a silicon sealer. it also suggest not to pry with a screw driver, instead, cut the seal around the pan

Well for me I pryed with a screwdriver because my pan was dented and had to be replaced. Guess I should've said that.
Yeah, use a boxcutter or something sharp that will cut in there. Once you get some of it cut you can start to pry gently. |

How exactly did you get to the bolts behind the oil pan? Looks like you might have to drop the crossmember or something to that extent. I posted this question in another section of the forum and i was told that i would have to jack up the motor. How did you do it?
