Post Any interest in a track day in September ?

For those of you who do not follow the BB in the North West Region, check out the rsquire's posting about a BLAST.

If someone organized a Subie track day in September where would you want it ?

1) Mission (BC)
2) SIR
3) PIR
4) somewhere else (state where)

Reckon on it being around the USD 300 mark. How many would be interested ?

Mission -- cauz I'm a local boy! Besides, depending on the state of our dollar, S/P-IR may be a bit on the expensive side. But then again, we'll probably end up sharing the track with another group as well.

LaterZ!

I am interested as well. I gather I can still do pretty well with the crappy RE92's with 26k km's on 'em?

SIR certainly was a total Blast..

These driving courses are THE best mod you can make to your car ie get the driver's head sorted out..

Forget Autox, sorry even forget RallyX.. Track lapping days are THE BEST.. Trust me you won't regret it..

I have two more coming up at the end of the month.. One in North Wales and one at Silverstone the full F1 track 3 miles to the lap !!!!

Richard, the GP circuit is the best. Bridge corner, foot to the floor, no breaking, no lift, 120mph+ .... it's just fantastic.

Enjoy.
Just wish I was going.

I 'm busy studying the Autosport track guide..

GULP.. It looks pretty daunting

I had a 1 on 1 session at Donnington with a race driver specialist and his technique was to learn 1 corner at a time. Start with corner 1 and work your way around. Initially, treat the remaining corners at 9/10ths. At the end of the day you have a complete lap. On the instruction day I went 2 seconds under the lap record for my class. 3 days later in the race I overdrove every corner and went about 6 seconds slower!

Probably the most significant thing I got from that day is use the whole track. Staying 6 inches in from the edge all the way around is SLOW. It's amazing just how much easier (and faster) the course is if you really hit your marks. The slalom in autox is a good example of that. The really fast guys are tight and inch perfect.

I know what you mean about using the whole track esp running smoothly out to the exit point..

Donno is a great track isn't it.. I really enjoyed it back in April.. Craners was a bit daunting at first, but I had a good "instructor" with me who has put in hundreds of laps around there.. By the end of the day I as going through the left hander flat in 4th

Who was your instructor.. Rob Mac ??

I'm also doing another track day, in Anglesey, and maybe MIRA or Bruntingthorpe while I'm over there.

I'm hooked

Cool

I was racing in a Ferrari only series and my instructor was one of the seasoned racers, unbeatable in the fully modified class. He gave me lines slightly different from the Autosport guide that were more suited to the car. Inches (sorry cms) make a difference.

Know what you mean about the Craner curves. The only way to stay on the track is not to lift. A white knuckle ride if ever there was one. Most passengers don't breath until after the hairpin!

Silverstone will be more of a challenge. It's a very technical track. Bridge and through Maggotts are the places to scare your passenger to death. Copse will surprise you by the end of the day just how fast it can be taken. Club will be the one to watch at the end of the day. You should be able to make it flat out from the initial left hander, just hold on and hope that you've judged the 4 wheel drift because it will be too late to lift near the exit.

You lucky, lucky man.

Bruntingthorpe has changed a lot in the last few years. I will never forget Jonathan Palmer taking me round in a MacLaren F1. 320Kph down the straight. 250Kph sideways through a sweaping 180 : .

Didn't know there was a track on the island unless you mean the old airport in the middle.

Now remind me, what am I doing in Vancouver?

Not sure if the Anglesey track is the old airfield. Apparently it used to be called Ty Croes...

This is the layout from the website..

From the directions, it is not the old airfield because that sits either side of the A5.

Its the old Tye Cross track but has had a huge investment in the last couple of years and has been totally relaid. It is right on the irish sea coastline, looks pretty spectacular with the sea on one side and snowdonea on the other.

Craner at donington is my favourite series of corners on any track in the UK, it took me quite some time to build up to taking it flat, i have it at 135MPH down there now in my westfield cosworth.

Agree on copse at silverstone, boy is that corner quick once you have confidence in the car, i found the best way to increase my speed through there was to select a higher gear than i thought i needed and build the speed up over a few laps to the point where i was exiting flat on the throttle and carying a lot of speed through the apex.

Stowe is a funny one as you can brake rediculously late for that from a huge speed, its slightly uphill on the brakes and has a gentle turn in on the brakes before the main corner tightens to take you down the vale, quite a challenge to get right.

As for bridge, thats just mental, you must let the car drift to the exit though and not try and tuck the car over to the right too soon for the first left in the complex, its a favourite for spinning into the inside wall if you do.

The most danagerous corner i found was the corner from the complex onto the pit straight, its tightens late and the road funnels into a narrow track with concrete one side and armco the other. Treat it with respect at first in particular as getting it wrong there will end up in a ritten off car.

Its gonna be fun rich, just a week to go now and we will be flying round one of the best tracks in the world.

John, good luck with getting the Westie back on the road.

I'm a Manchester lad born & bred. Left there 3 years ago for the spectacular Pacific North West. They got salmon here that could pull your car and Richards into the river.

Got to ask, do you have a leather skull cap and goggles for the rain, or wimp it with a cover ? I've seen brave skull cappers in my time.

Rain or shine its my rally team cap that protects my head, above 20MPH in the rain it just goes over the top, stays bone dry.

Rich, just realised we are racing the Esprit at Oulton Park the day before Anglesy, fancy spending the day with me on the esprit??

Just got back from dropping the car of for surgerey and got talking, whilst the head and sump are off we have decided to whip the pistons out and machine them for 7.7:1 compresion ratio so i will be able to run 30PSI boost, 400BHP here we come
