TPS light is on, pressure is fine
My TPS light came on a few weeks ago when I last drove the car. I'm back in LA and the light is still on. I checked the tire pressures a few weeks ago and again today and the pressures are all good, between 32 and 33 in each tire. It seems like one of the sensors is broken...is there anything else it could be?
Also, the car was purchased in May of 2010. Is this something covered under the 3/36 warranty?

Ask the service writer at your dealer. Likely a bad sensor. They don't last forever but that's pretty quick. My LGT...they died in a little over 2 years. I didn't care as the light isn't all that annoying.

Subaru charges $45 to reset the TPMS light. Is it worth $45?

This seems like something that would be and or should be covered under warranty if you still have a warranty.

Weirdly enough, washing the car fixed it. A clean car never breaks, I guess.

How long was it between drives? The light won't go off unless you drive the car for a bit. The sensor needs to pass the pickup a few times. If the light was on and the car never moved but you adjusted the pressure, the light would stay on. From your post it doesn't sound like you've driven very much.

If the TPMS telltale light is flashing when you first start the car, you have a dead sensor. When its cold, pressures drop a little more easily so just check the pressure more often. If the pressure is approx 15% lower than spec the light will illuminate. Adjust to 33 psi and after driving for about three mins or less the light will clear out if it was just a pressure issue. I would never pay a shop 45 for a sensor scan. It's literally a two min job at most and free at a lot of tire shops (don't go to the dealer for tire issues). The sensor itself runs about 35-40 dollars at the last shop I worked at with a 14 dollar install. The sensors have to be relearned with the linked ID numbers (TPMS relearn scanner does it in no time)
