Default Ford Taurus X and Mercury Sable to die in spring 2009

Quote:
FoMoCo has told dealers to take in their final orders for the Ford Taurus X SUV and the Mercury Sable sedan before the two vehicles end production in spring of 2009. Ford spokesman Mark Schirmer told Automotive News today that Ford will stop making the Taurus X in March and the Sable in April.

Both vehicles, which are made at Ford’s Chicago assembly plant, have been slow sellers for Ford with the Taurus X selling 22,141 units through November, down 40.7 percent, and the Sable selling 15,586 units, down 20.7 percent.

Schirmer confirmed that the 2010 Ford Taurus will go into production in spring and will be on sale at the end of June. It is expected to make its debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next month.

I didn't even realize there was a Taurus X. See ya! Now they just need to get rid of Mercury altogether.

Well we all know that the Taurus is getting redesigned in 2010, but has there been ANY news about a Mercury version coming out?

The Freestyle/Taurus X is a VERY capable vehicle and makes more sense than the Flex (lighter, too).

Think Forester-XL with more power and a nicer cabin.

I am really baffled that they actually have continued to make the taurus/sable this long. I wasn't even aware there was a Taurus SUV. Man, I want to meet the guy who thought that was a good idea. I just can't believe that ford execs are somehow not aware that the model name "taurus" has pretty much been associated with "garbage", "crap", "worthless", "shame", etc. for the past decade. Want a car guaranteed to not sell? Call it a taurus. I think the taurus, of any year, is in my top 5 list of cars I would rather kill myself than own, and it would probably be pretty close to #1, if not #1.
