Really depends. It took me almost three hours. Some have done it in alot less time. I prefer to do a very clean and complete lining of the entire roof, that's what takes the extra time.

This might sound dumb - but can you actually get the whole roof lining out of the car pretty easily? I've been wanting to do this for a while given that when it rains it's just so noisy, but am afraid to rip my car apart

Rich

And - is RAAMAT better or the same as Dynamat (just cheaper)? I'm a complete audio noob so please forgive my ignorance.

i have raamat original and it is good stuff. but the delux stuff is the best deal. i lined my doors and trunk. the asphalt smell went away in a couple of days and when they say it is sticky it sure its. once it is on it is on for good.

Default install time

It took me about 3 hours to do the entire roof of a wagon. I posted pictures from about 5 months ago.

You can completely remove the roof liner from the wagon, but I beleive that this is not true for the sedan. Just another reason to get a wagon.

You didn't say whether we were talking wagon or sedan did you?
If it's wagon, check it:

yasin~

the difference is the thickness. i think the deluxe is like twice as thick. they both are made from the same type of stuff with the aluminum layer. the asplat is twice as thick. i found the original made a big difference in the overall sound of my system and road noise. plus the weight of my doors fully lined with one layer is pretty heavy already. gives it the luxury car feel thud when closing. if you don't care about the weight go with the deluxe. i didn't want to pay an extra $20 for the deluxe to ship it to hawaii air mail. overall the deluxe is the way to go if you don't care about the weight. most people use to double up the original when laying it down anyways. so the delux is the best bang for the buck.

I figure on doing my doors in original, and my roof and wheel wells in double.

Sound logical? I don't mind the weight too much, but I don't think I have to do double all the way around.

Luxury car sound? NICE! I went to a 2003 car show last weekend. The BMW doors? My friend says "Listen when you shut the doors: THEY SOUND LIKE MONEY"

hahahhaa. bling bling baybee
hahahaa

peace,
Y

You guys motivated me to finally break down and dynamat my roof. It took around 2 3/4 hours with cleanup. Now I wont have to feel like I am sitting in a snare drum when it rains. I spent about 30 seconds trying to figure our if I could remove the headliner on the sedan then said the hell with it. You have plenty of room to work if you move it up onto the dash and do the rear, then move it onto the rear deck and do the front. I cant wait for it to rain tommorow so I can tell the diffrence.

All I have left now is the rear doors. I have done the front doors, roof, trunk, and rear wheel wells. Has anyone done the floors and was it worth it?

I've heard the wheel wells are worth doing. reducing road noise and whatnot

wheel wells? isn't the front a part of the firewall and rear in the trunk?

btw single lined the doors, once on the outer skin and one on the inner webbing thus making a nice sealed enclosure for my speakers. it is funny only the rear door has strip of sound damping mat. it is like a 2"x4" strip and that is all.

i never got around to lining my roof yet but i still have lots of the 50 yards remaining for it.

ok, not the wells themselves, but the equivalent or relevant location corralating within the enclosure containing personage therefore dampening waves of statuatory - 'scuse me, auditory - interference therewith

You just missed out! I spent 31 seconds trying to figure out how I'd remove the liner and it occured to me that if I reclined my seats and scooted them back all the way I could slip the liner out the passenger or driver door. What a difference a second makes :P

What are the actual STEPS required to get the headliner down, not necessarily out of the sedan?
