Question How to attain 10:1 compression?

If I remember correctly Trey was running 10:1 comp. ratio in his 2.5. Any one know how he did that? Was it just a piston swap?

What would the problems be with upping the comp. ratio from 9.5:1 to 10:1 other than having to run 92-93 octane?

Shawn

Easiest way? Get a MY0x! If I remember correctly, they bumped the compression up to 10:1 after the MY99 cars.

Yea you could probably go up to 11.0:1 (might have to get an aluminum head gasket?...you could also get high compression rings for the pistons (i dont know if its true or not, that is the high comp rings?). I helped a friend take his head off of his '90 eagle talon and we took the pistons out and reoiled em & put 'high comp rings' on the bad boys. That + headers and a catback/exhaust (pacesetter)...All I know is that his car hauls now....

call trey he will tell you how he probably won't offer the service anymore because its not worth it to raise the compresion. by the way he did it by shaving the heads not switching pistons.

"High Compression Rings"?? The very definintion of "compression ratio" will tell you that there is no such thing. Someone sold you "new" rings and made a little money....

OH! definitely don't want to be shaving the heads. To darn costly.

I've been swaying back and forth between Turbo, S/C and N/A. Just not sure what route I am going to take. I've been waiting for someone to finally introduce a nice S/C. Once I have the info from that end I'll know exactly which route I am going to take.

I do appreciate all the responses. Very knowledgeable group of people here.

Now if I could only find a forum like this for 1957 Chevy Pickups.

Question

had a similar ? as well, is it posible to raise compression ratio just by changing the head gasket? if so what kind of power increase is there, im sure its small, and prob not worth the bother, but im curious

I heard a rumor along the lines that a higher compression (to an extent) engine gets better fuel economy then a lower compression turbocharged engine. Anyone know if there is any truth to that or any websites that have some info on high compression?

You might get better milage...But I dont think you would, cuz you would be raising the hp of the engine a bit.

shaving heads too costly? its like 150 bucks from cobb.. far less than swaping pistons or a turbo or s/c

I recall reading somewhere that as a rule of thumb, raising the CR by 1 (say, 10:1 to 11:1) would only yield about 2-3hp on an average engine. Does that sound right? I would think it would give more, but I could be wrong. Maybe I'm thinking of something entirely different. It's 2:14AM and I've been up since 5, I'm kinda tired.
