Default 3 Used tires one new.. Trans issues?

Hey,

I am trying to get winter tires and found a set or 3 used only a block away from me. They aren't terribly worn out, and have at least 2-3 Seasons left.

I'm picking them up today but was told that Running 3 Tires that are worn and 1 tire that is new (Blizzaks) will kill my trans...

Is this true?

Just seems very odd to me? that 4-5/32nds could do that, when the difference in tire pressure alone or other factors could effect this just as easily..

How is that odd? Your wheels will spin at different speeds. All 4 tires but be identical in brand and model and all within 2/32nds wear. Subaru's stated tolerance is 1/4" in circumference.

I suggest you watch your tire pressure.

it overheats your dif fluid due to it working too hard, and overtime it will burn up your center dif as well.

just be safe and get 4 new tires, rotate them frequently, and keep pressures in check

Hey Byzantium, where are you referencing this tolerance? Not questioning you, but if I ever tell someone this, I want to know I am not speaking out of my ass.

Does anyone know how to tell when the rear diff, or even the center diff for this matter, goes out? Symptoms?
