Default Hybrid 2.5/Twin scroll GTX3076R Build

Thought I'd add my build thread to this forum also to just get the info out there. Car started its life as an ADM 2001 WRX (bugeye), but not much left of that now Ran the original EJ205 (hard!) to 240,000km before a rod bolt let go and made a good mess (lucky I had already started building). Cut to the chase...

what oil pan is that? And let me know how the gtx3076 turbo does. I have a gt3788r twin scroll and i am thinking of going smaller. I put down 668 at the wheels and believe it or not the turbo is pretty responsive.

Only real difference in our builds is i have dart sleeves and 282/276 Kelford drag cams.

So as soon as you have numbers PM me if you dont want to make them public.

I'm still on my run in tune (done about 450km), and only just started working on cruise and early spool, keeping things <0.8bar and <5000. I can tell you that it's super responsive and really wants to move. Using e90. These turbos down here in Victoria tend to max out at 300kw/400hp atw. I'll be sure to post results when I'm done, will also hit the drags at some point too.

As above, the single scroll gt/x3076r's here max out at 300kw/400hp atw on e. that's for single scroll 0.82 a/r rear housings. Being twin scroll I may lose some top end. Hoping the twin vta gates will help with that

Wow, thats a pricy oil sump even for me

I am about to order the killerbee one but this one seems to have a better oil pick up system.

what do you think?

I was thinking either way no matter which one i get i am gonna make a custom oil return from the turbo. At 38lbs of boost i have a issue not getting the oil back out of the turbo on decel.

Looks like a good start to a great build, few things:

How much boost are you planning on running?

Did you decide to run 9:1 pistons to lower the compression?

How much clearance do you have on your Brembo's with the 17x8 wheel setup?

This one was another option, as was the Moroso. I went with the Hyperflow as I could easily get local support if required.

Depends what the boost/kw ratio gets to be. I guess I could ballpark around 25psi or so, possibly less for longevity

Do you mean raise? Standard compression EJ25T is 8.2 or so. Using an EJ25 block and EJ20 heads raises compression again, and I also opted for the thinner STi headgasket. I haven't done the calcs, but my static compression ratio should be well over 9:1

From memory I have about 5-10mm. They are genuine Rays TE37's.

You clearly seem to know what your doing but i would like to exercise my knowledge a bit please feel free to correct me im here to learn.

Im alittle consfused as to why you would use thinner headgaskets which raises your CR when your trying to lower your CR since its already high after swapping heads?

I mean if you swap the heads and the CR raises to lets say 10:1 for example and your target CR is about 9:1 adding those gaskets could possibly put you inbetween?

I know im not an expert but it sounds contradicting. Like i said please correct me if im wrong theres obviosly a reason for you doing this.

Also ive been reading alot into these swaps why dont you just have the 2.0 heads machined out to match the 2.5 heads. It sounds like less of a pain in the ass and from what i understand it yields significant gains all throughout the powerband. iirc if you use a piston rated on the 57cc sti heads on the 50cc (or whatever it is) heads that the wrx and i think ej20's use, you add around 0.8 to the compression ratio.

so if the piston was rated to 8.2:1, it will have a comp ratio of about 9.0:1.

remember the pistons have their compression ratio on the sti calculated with the sti head gasket. the head CC's aren't including the head gasket.

I'm using e85 full time, so could afford to bump the compression (that was the aim). I used CP's rated at 9:1, very minimal work was done to the combustion chamber - just rounded sharp edges to prevent hot spots. I haven't started tuning midrange or top end yet, but she seems to be taking timing just fine, which is to be expected on e85.

I'm fairly certain the builder recorded all the deck heights, etc, so in theory I could calculate my static CR. Although, I'm sure someone more familiar could probably ballpark it just from experience. Based on the above, my CR may be around 9.8 (assuming a balance of removal of combustion chamber material and deck height matching/used head skimming)? Either way, I'm not overly concerned. As long as I can land this turbo in the high efficiency zones with decent timing, I'll be happy

I have read that with E85 you can run a slightly higher CR! Good buildup so far, will you be posting dyno results/ more pics? Also are you using a standalone ECU?

Thanks. Standard ECU, will convert to Carberry ROM when it's all run in and I'm happy with the MAF tune. Ass-dyno tuning for the moment, will probably attend the next dyno day. I have lots of pics, what are you interested in seeing?

Basically whatever you feel is the important parts of your build, like the suspension setup, the interior, your car on the track or dyno, anything really... Im sure me and the other NASIOC members wont be disappointed haha

What type of flange is the GTX3076R? It looks like a T3 but I could be wrong...matches the exhaust housing size too.
