Default Headlight Chrome be Gone!

Well after a while of reading a lot of DIY's..I finally grew a pair a thought I'd give myself a project for this weekend. So here's the start, will be done Sunday night so stay tuned

Blacked out the orange reflector and turn signal bowl.

So one headlight is done and is going to sit out all night to cure. Ill start the next headlight tomorrow then let that one sit out tomorrow night..then installation will commence on Sunday because I have to work on Monday lol. I tried finding some duplicolor yellow metal cast for the high beam bowl, but was unable to locate any so it will stay chrome...oh well.

I keep hearing different temps and times for baking the housings. What did you do yours at? Is that a baking sheet you put them on?

I put it in at 220 deg for 12 min to separate them. Then after paint I put it back in at about 175 deg for 3 min to help bake the paint. Yes I put them on a tray BC I didn't want them on the metal rack

I wouldn't plastidip. The housing would probably get too hot for plastidip, which is why you need high temp paint for this project.

If you're going to do it, do it right, paint it.

OP, IMO you should've left the ring chrome, but its your car and anything is better than all chrome! ahah.

I love making money off this DIY, I have done 5 sets for some guys in my chapter!

People have done mid pipes in dip, not going to burn. That being said, pant is the way to go.

Looks awesome!

I love how this mod has been a "must have" for just about every generation of WRX/STI since 2002. It's still one of the favorite ones I've done. Especially since it's one of the first things you see every time you walk up to your car.

I didn't want the chrome ring, then it would look like the stock 2011s. I love all black

Mine are drying right now. I taped the ring, although the tape prep for that was the biggest pain

Sweet lets see them when your done. I originally was gonna go with some wild color on there but I decided to play it safe and go all black. I'm happy with it.

Will do, I am going to let them dry overnight and put them back together in the AM. I figure if I don't like the chrome ring, I can easily black it out

You should be VERY happy that you went with black!

Had a guy do white on his white hawk eye... I will stop at that and let you imagine how it turned out.

Angel eyes on anything other than BmW for me are lame.

Just had to hit mine with another coat, missed a spot I couldn't see last night.

Do you think blacking out the projector ring cuts any light output?
