Default Problems with early 90s head gaskets?

Hi, My sister's got a 92 Loyale wagon. Head gasket cr@pped out at ~140k miles. An engine from Japan with known-good compression was sourced/installed. Less than 20k miles later, this engine's got a bad head gasket, too. The car gets regular but light duty and regular maintenance.

Before we do the gaskets on this motor, is this a known problem? I know there were Turbo variants of this car - is the Turbo gasket different, i.e., sturdier?

If there's some info on this, please point the way - did a search and didn't come up with anything relevant. Also, we've got a Haynes manual for the job, but if there are any tricks/tips you could throw our way, we'd be happy to throw you some good Karma and a "virtual" beer in return.

Thanks...

hmm.... there not really a problem with these cars cause my Loyale Sedan is a '90 and its got 171K miles on it and its still runs like its Brand New.... but pretty much the only reason the Head Gaskets crap out is cause they let the car over heat or something, becuse they dont really go for no reason unless your just unlucky.

the head gaskets tend to blow after a certain number of heat cycles (on and off) I delivered pizza in my car and the head gaskets didnt last long. Generally turbos tend to eat the head gaskets faster than non turbos. I love it when they blow gaskets... I can pick up the cars for like $200, reseal the engine and sell it when it snows for like $1500

Sounds like bad luck mainly. I have reselaed/rebuilt dozens of these and never had an issue with them. Threebond whwerever the 'book' says so, (and around the lwr sections of the head gasket oil return section), this will stop 'oil sweat' for up to 250,000kms!! Also, I have never done a head gasket of any description on any car without using 'Torque-Tight Copper Gasket Spray' on the gasket, (before I put the three bond around the oil return gallery only). NEVER had a drama. I owned one of these for years and gave it HEAPS, hot and cold, no dramas. I think one of the main reasons these eng's have issues is all about assembly, bolt lengths need to be checked and I changed the tighteneing sequence to include around 5-6 steps. Did the same with all the Race stuff I did too. Anyway, soryy to drag it back up.....just my 0.2c
