Default Seat being replaced - bent frame causing metal to poke through fabric

My '12 Impreza with about 12k miles has a part of the seat frame coming through the fabric. Dealership is covering it under warranty. They initially thought it would only be foam and fabric, but after taking it apart, they say the frame is bent and that caused what happened. They needed the car for the weekend since they didn't have the part in stock, and gave me a CVT Impreza to drive in the meantime. Definitely different between the two...

I'm not huge, but I'm not a small guy (6' 4" 235lbs) and wonder if this is something I am going to have to worry about happening again in another 12k miles. Was it anything I did by getting in and out of the car daily for 14 months?

Anyone else have their seat replaced for something like this?

My seat was all kinds of funky mess. Horribly uncomfortable. Seat frame was replaced and it got worse after a month or so.
Im 5'10", 195lbs.

I asked the service guy if I should expect this again in another 12k miles, and he says that it looked like a bad weld that broke. So, here's my concern; if there was a bad weld there, where else is there going to be another one? Was the welder robot calibrated wrong?

I think you had an early production run '12, mine is a January or February '12 production date, so, still early, but not as early as yours was. I think that's where a lot of problems you had stemmed from.

I've been considering trading in for a '14 FXT, but only if my payments are going to be close to the same (credit score has shot up over 120 points since I bought my Impreza 16 months ago) and I can get a later production run model.

One thing I noticed was that there's a huge difference to the acceleration between the CVT and manual. My 5 sp feels peppy and seems to accelerate significantly faster compared to the CVT. Confirms why I bought this one. (Never drove the CVT until this last weekend.)

Same here. My credit went from alright to awesome in 16 months of Impreza ownership.
My 12 fwiw was an early car. October 2011 build date

I just picked up a 2012 Sport Premium and after living with it for a few weeks I have to say that I hate the driver's seat. My left shoulder feels like it is further back than the right, almost like the seat frame is twisted (it doesn't "appear" to be). I also clearly have the issue that others have had with the heater element bunching up on the lower cushion. I will need to pull the seat apart and fix that sooner rather than later. This is my 7th Subaru and these are the only seats that I may not be able to live with long term.

Probably too early, but are any other Subaru front seats compatible with ours? WRX or STi front seats possibly? I really want to keep all airbags functional, so the plugs for the wiring will have to be the same. I am probably wishing and hoping for way too much here...

Brz seats and probably the new Forester seats will fit, wrx not until redesigned.

I also feel like the seat is twisted, but I can't see any evidence of it being so

One question... are we all talking about the cloth seats here, or are the leathers a problem too?

If it is just the cloth seats that are the issue, then that opens Limited seats up from both the Impreza and the XV as viable replacements.

Did you bring the TSB printout with you and prove that it is squeaking?

I gave them the # and the tech didn't even know that there was one available. The tech couldn't hear the squeak so he took me out and I sat in it and made it squeak, which he was able to hear.

I guess at some point I'll have to make another appointment, printout on paper the TSB, and not leave til they fix the seat. I may just rip apart the seat myself and put some bushings on it

Yes the seats are definitely a weak point.
My new ones are still great. My friend with a regular 13 Premuim has the same seats my old car had. The padding is way too soft and the material too loose and stretchy.
I drove 300 miles over the weekend and no back aches! I couldn't do that in my last one.

Make sure they order the parts first
