I was at a muscle car forum picnic a few years ago and was talking with a guy who had an early 80's Malibusomethingorother. I asked him why he picked that car. He said "I can buy the car for $600....put a $6000 engine in it and run 9's".

So there you go, guys.

Dave......you've now lost me on the audio stuff. To put those massive subs in my Elise, I'd have to remove something like.....probably the engine for it to fit.

There was a shopping list floating around the internet for a while how to do 10s with 10k starting with a ratty civic.

Jack, in order to fit ME into your Elise you'd probably have to remove the engine...

ROFL.... That's pretty funny.... No engine so here we go flint'stones

Anyway how did this thread go from cheap 400awhp to fitting monster subs in Elise with its engine removed.... I'm sure OP is scratching his noggins now Lol

I was just wondering how the **** this thread is still open...and if we get points for going off topic, does that mean Jack does too? Can mods get points?

I told him a simple formula

Find a 50-70k mile old
2005 Mustang GT for around 15k
Buy a centrifugal supercharger kit for 3500
Buy a tune and a larger pulley for another couple hundred

There you go. 500hp (crank hp) reliably forever. Good luck making it hook up if you run out that 20k before you buy tires
Nothing beats GM for cheap HP. The smallblocks are so cheap and plentiful, you can build a serious engine for a few thousand. that's all forged internals bored and stroked that makes 400-500 crank hp. and that's an NA engine. Take that 3k built motor and put nitrous or a supercharger on it for 1000-5000 and you could be pushing 1000hp.

I will admit the mustang is a better platform for one reason; it doesn't weigh as much as a truck.

I was shocked to see that Subaru cams were in the thousands of dollars, when you can get a cam for a GM smallblock for between $80-$400

Or, you could buy an 03-04 mustang cobra, have a 6 speed instead of that junk 5 speed, have a forged bottom end that can take 800+hp from the factory for 16k, buy a kenne bell, convert to E85, and have a 700WHP car that would be more reliable than that POS 2 valve any day. Not to mention, it's a goddamn cobra.

Nothing like spending all kinds of money to make your car go faster, and then weigh it all down with all kinds of super-duper audio equipment.

But then, I think spending all kinds of money to produce more HP than you can legally use on the street is tremendously stupid anyway.

The only difference between spending $60K in upgrades on a street car, and flushing $60K down the toilet, is that your toilet doesn't back up if you spend it on your car.

It would be closer to being equal in price to a '06 STi, so why not just get the STi and avoid the headache of doing the swap as well as having a chasis that is 10x better?
