Default What is wrong with my rotors? (PIC)

Both my rear rotors have spots all over them and I don't know what it is from. The fronts seem fine. I don't race my car but I can drive aggressively on the back roads and have heated up the brakes to the point of losing them once or twice. I just switched to Bobcats up front and am running stock pads on the rear. I will switch them to Axxis soon. Ay suggestions? Do the rotors need to be replaced or just turned?

Thanks,
Aaron

Looks like glaze to me. Have them turned and replace the pads. Sand and paint the hub section of the rotor with a good high-temp paint to protect them(from getting ugly)while they're off the car. It's hard to tell from that angle, but make sure your calipers are aligned squarely to the rotor. You seem to have more contact to the outside of the rotor. It may not be anything to worry about, but less contact is gonna make the pads work harder(get hotter)which could lead to glazing.

That's the best I can come up with by looking at that pic.
Hope this helps,
Jay Storm

What caliper adjustments are there? When I replaced my rotors and pads it seemed like there was no way to adjust anything. The mounting brackets and the calipers mounted only ONE WAY. Did I miss something?

thanks

No, you may not have missed anything. The pins may not be straight, or there may be other things that can let the caliper get out of alignment with the rotor. It's not normally a problem until you start using the brakes to their potential.

It could also be pad backing that isn't totally square. Tough to say without looking into it thoroughly.

Get the glaze removed, change the pads and see if it comes back.

Thanks, I'll check them out this weekend and see if I can get the glaze off.
