Default Factory Warranty on STI

I just bought a used 06 STI with 19k on it and after washing it on the outside for the first time I noticed that the paint is flaking off on the inside of the spokes on the rims. These are the gold BBS'. I was wondering if anyone had seen this problem before and also if you guys think the stock warranty would cover the wheels.

it should but it wont.... they'll tell you that you used something too abrasive to clean them with, which the previous owner probably did..you could just repaint them all, any color your heart desires.

slo06sti, did you purchase the car from a dealer? If so, bring it back to them and explain what happened. They may take care of it for you out of their own pocket if SOA happens to deny the claim.

I bought it from a jag dealer and they were dicks kind of ripped them off so im not going to get help from them. I guess I'll just have to go in and see what SOA says. You would think it would be covered. I would understand them not covering it if the wheel was curbed and it was a result of that, but its up by the lugnut on the spokes.

....my point was that the entire wheel may have been repainted perhaps due to some repair (i.e. by a wheel repair shop due to rash, bend, etc.). It wouldn't hurt to ask I suppose.

Subaru only has a few thousand miles for their bumper to bumper warranty. At 19k miles you are SOL. Otherwise my entire front end would have been repainted long ago ;-)

you "kind of ripped them off" ?
I wonder what that means, exactly.

but the Jag dealer is not the one providing a warranty on the factory wheels anyway, right?
or do you mean something besides Jaguar when you say 'jag' ?

.....bumper to bumper is 3yrs/36,000 miles (which he is still under).

The whole reason I mentioned going to the dealer is due to the fact that they are the ones who sold you the car. If there was a botched repair to the wheel, they may take care of it for you. .....if you really feel this is the result of a factory workmanship, take it to a Subaru dealer to see if they will repair it under warranty.

Don't repaint them. Contact SOA or the Jag dealer. Just do it.

If you do this yourself, you are a fool.

Unless there's a recall, it's hard to hold anyone's feet to the fire. I'd give it a shot. What's the harm in going down there and asking? You'll probably get a run-around and denied, but at least you'll know.

Er. I meant the warranty that covers paint and door dings. It's been a while...(hello 2002) but I think it was 5k or 10k miles.

some dealers offer an extra 'paint protection' warranty that you can buy from them when you get your car new.. but other than that paint and body parts usually aren't covered under any bumper-bumper.. unless they fall off.

If it has anything to do with defects in material or workmanship, then it is all covered under the 3/36. .....door dings are not.

I'm just going to go down there this weekend and talk to them about it. I'll let you guys know what happens. Just off hand has anyone else had this happen?

As for the Ripping the Jaguar dealer off its a long story. The jist of it was that they appraised my trade-in without it being there, and we agreed on terms and finished in finance. Came back the next day with the trade 05 Scion XB with Carbon hood and some other things done, which had recently been keyed all the way down the passengers side. I had to go into finance again because they found a better APR and when I came out of finance the salesman came up to me and was like what is this scratch on the side of your trade. I was like not sure must of just happened. And drove off in my STI. LOL. Dicks. by ripping them off they gave me 10,900 for my trade and with the scratch and there was a large dent in the hatch. it was worth about 7500.

Thats what they get for trying to bull**** a bull****ter.

I'm going to take it to the local SOA dealer this weekend I will let you guys know what happens. As for ripping the Jaguar dealership off its a long story. But the jist is. They quoted me on my tradein before seeing it and then I finished finanace before they looked at it and it had recently been keyed all the way down the passengers side to the metal. It was a Scion XB. They gave me top dollar for trade in when it was worth about 4k less. LOL.

Thats what you get when you try to bull**** a bull****ter. HAHA.

Now that's just you being an *******! I did the same thing for my trade-in (I was quoted a price sight-unseen) HOWEVER, I told the dealership everything that was wrong with the car (it was throwing a CEL it had some body damage UNDER the right sideskirt (sheet metal was torn due to avoiding an accident by going onto a curb) etc. They didn't give me what I was looking for on the car, but they only missed by $500 (which they more than made up for with the 6yr/100K mile warranty which I almost got for free)

Suck up the cost of repairing the wheel, you deserve it. It's people like you that make trouble for the rest of us!

What kind of peeling is happening to the wheel? Is it light flaking or the paint bubbling and coming right off the rim in big patches?

Brake fluid can eat paint off the wheel and I have seen it happen. Chances are that will be tough to prove that it didn't happen being you are not the original owner.
