Default Buffing My Impreza

Hey,
I just bought a 2009 Impreza 2.5i Premium in red. The paint is nice, but, the paint has light scratches throughout. Nothing major, but noticeable. Now, is there anything wrong with getting a car this new buffed and waxed professionally? I understand that if it needs to be buffed, it needs to be buffed, but, does buffing harm the originality of the cars finish or cause long term harm?

-Thanks

When you polish a car you are removing a very fine layer of the clear coat. If you want to have a light full detail with a finishing polish and pad, there is little harm on a newish car with light swirl marks or scratches. And Subarus are especially nice to work with considering how soft their paint is (meaning, easy to cut with a light combo).

However, be careful if you take your car to a "professional" who "compounds" your car and leaves it full of buffer trails and deeper swirl marks. That will damage your clear coat more which will lead to needing a more aggressive combo to remove their induced swirls. Which is why you should go to a proper detailer and not a shop that just spits cars out in two hours.

If I were you, I would check this page out to look for a reputable detailer in your area:

if you have the time, i would recommend buying a PC kit from detailers domain.
I did it for my first time took me about 25 hours total but, the car looks awesome and if you are a control freak like me you dont have to hand your car over to some hack with a buffer.

This.

Though you need to do your homework. I watched countless videos and read a ton on polishing/waxes/different compounds/etc before I went to work. The awesome thing about dual orbitors is they are super user friendly.

....I think "dual action" orbital is what you meant.

I agree with JTMH. ....I also agree with the other two if you want to go that route. The simple fact is that not everyone has the time or desire to do what it takes to correct their paint themselves. That link JTMH provided will help you find someone if that's the case. ....otherwise I would suggest you start browsing as many articles, videos, etc. on the subject that you can get your hands on.

Thanks for the replies. So, when you buff to remove light scratches, are the really gone or just hidden? Sorry if thats a dumb question, I just don't know the science behind it. I just want to make sure that buffing, if done right, does not make the vehicle any less durable or original.....I'm very picky with that kind of stuff, haha.

-Thanks

I agree with the above. Do your homework to know what you are getting into. Doing it wrong could leave it looking worse than when you started.
