Effect of wider wheel? (same diameter and weight)
I'm looking at getting the ASA LW5 wheels in 16x7.5. The weight on these is 16.3 lbs vs. 16.5 (I've heard) for the stockers.
My question is: will the wider rim increase rotational inertia the same way that a taller (i.e 17/18") wheel would? I'd like to avoid too much resistance if at all possible seeing as how my car came without one of those turbo-thingies. Thank you! ~Paul

You're oversimplifying it. Two wheels of the same weight can have that weight located in different places. It's perfectly conceivable that two wheels that are the exact same width, diameter, and weight, could have drastically different rotating inertia because of where the weight is located. There's really no way of knowing unless you're talking about multi-piece wheels and you can weigh the seperate pieces. However, I think you can assume that for a "normal" wheel the difference will be very, very small by adding an inch of width.

there will be very little if any changes in the rotational interia of the 2 wheels in question .... now, if you were Mario Andretti in one of those F1 type cars you might feel some sort of difference or might not ... I wouldn't worry about it ....... pull the trigger and enjoy your better looking bhetter performing new wheels and get a set of 225/50-16's to go with them
