Talking I just bought my first Subaru - Any advice for me?

I've kept one eye on Subaru for years. My grandfather liked them (he had a BRAT back in the 80s and took it off-road often), so I've always respected them.

Two days ago I saw a Subaru commercial and, on a whim, drove down to the dealership and ended up falling in love with an Impreza and driving home in it.

I love it, it's a 2006 2.5i, but I'd like to put a little bit more guts in it. Maybe just an extra 10hp for fun. Any suggestions for the best way to do that?

Also, how do these do off-road? I told my dad I got it and he already wants to take off tearing across the desert in it. I'm very tempted to do it; is there anything I should know first?

Thanks.

It's an AWD car, it's meant to be on the dirt.

Can you elaborate a little bit? The small amount of reading I've done has led me to believe that aftermarket intakes are useless under 250hp, and that this car could never really get above 240hp.

Just enjoy the car.

I wouldn't start modding untill you decide which direction you want to go with it.

i'm curious to know which subaru commercial you saw. is it the one with that sheryl crow song on it or the one with the sheryl crow song on it?. cuz those commercials definitely don't make me wanna get up and get a subaru. lol.

but damn, anyone remember that one commercial where they were showing this bugeye rex driving through some back country roads and they flash the wrc car back and forth and then the commercial ends with the boxer rumble fading in. those are the commercials subaru should be showing.

It was probably one of those end of the year clearance commercials.

These are on youtube. Great commercials compared to the "Cheryl Crow All Wheel Deal!"

I've had a Impreza TS for almost four years now (4EAT aka Automatic to boot). I've beat the crap out of it on bumpy back roads, RallyX's and brisk TSD's and I've never had a lick of trouble (other than damage caused by driver error). They are suprizingly tough cars, and on the twisty back roads 165hp is as much as most people can use.

If you do a lot of backroad driving I would suggest spending your money on better tires, an upgrade the suspension (used WRX parts are cheap) and driving lights, before you get into power mods.

Question: That annoying seat belt beeping even when the car is in park and the brake is on - any way to get rid of that?

I often spend my lunch break in the car with the AC running, eating, listening to music, etc. I don't need to wear my seat belt when I'm parked and the beeping is driving me crazy.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

Get a good set of sticky tires, you will love them Hankook Ventus RS2's rock. My favorite mod.

if it's what you really wanted, then no. if you got this car trying to be competitive at events, then yes.

though there is a guy with an automatic L that kicks some ass at the local autocrosses....i believe he's on this forum

you put the key in the ignition and set it to the point right before your car starts...your radio and internal lights should be able to come on and you insert and take out your seat belt out of the lock about 30 times as fast as you can and the beeping should be gone forever...trust me it works

if you want to do off roading in it, look in to a rear diff gaurd and a skid plate, and maybe some ok tires. other than that, enjoy that bad boy and welcome to nasioc

Wow, I didn't know the RS has a BPV. I guess that's good for when you buy one of those Tornado air funnels.

Some of you guys are speaking Martian here. I should've mentioned that I don't know the first thing about cars in general, much less Subarus (where did the name Scooby come from?), but I'm eager to learn. I even read a whole page about the Cobb Accessport and I still don't know what the hell it is!

Oh, and I'm fairly certain my wife would stab me if I did anything to it to make it annoyingly loud. In fact, I'd rather not have it any louder than stock myself.

Thanks for all the responses far, you guys are great.
