Default BlackStone oil report with M1 5W-30 (MY04STi)

Just wanted to share my oil report to everyone who have concern about using Mobile 1 5W-30 motor oil on STi's.
The sample was pulled from 3k miles of Boston's summer 50 stop n' go, 50 HW usage. I usually start up the engine and let it idle at least a minute before I take off. Shift below 3k rpm before it fully warmed up. I barely redline the engine, probably no more than 3 times, I mostly shift at 6k rpm when I'm in the mind.
Anyway, here it is........

The oil report is not the problem people have with M1 5W-30, my reports also showed just as clean after 5000+ miles. Some have had problems with the oil being too thin and spinning rod bearings, this isn't a huge widespread issue though.

I redline my car every single day....

and it has 187,000 miles on it!

The only problem with it now is the valve seals are starting to leak a little bit, which is to be expected at that many miles.

If the oil is in fact too thin for the engine and there's some wear on the rod bearings, it should show on the report on either LEAD, TIN or COPPER. Isnt it?

Simply because I think going fast on a straight line isnt too much fun for me. I pick up the speed I need and going twice or sometimes triple the speed limit in a corner, that's where I'm having fun with and the reason why I buy the STi for.

If the bearings were going bad yes, but this too thin thing happens once and your engine starts making a knocking sound from the spun bearing. I am not sure all of the variables that cause it, my guess would be excessive lugging at low rpm with this oil. Not too many drivers run their cars like that which could be why not everyone is spinning bearings on Mobile 1.

Agreed.. Sometimes people have to learn from experience. Personally, I'd never use Mobil 1 in any weight.

What makes you avoid using Mobile1 motor oils? Sure I've seen some bad stories about spun bearing but are they directly related to the mobile 1 oil? Prove it, educate me.

(the following is not factual info, just an example to make a point...)

90% of people with spun bearings have mobil 1 in their engines at the time.
90% of people use mobil 1 in general.

hmmmmm. i've heard the stories, but i'm just saying... gotta look at things in perspective.

90% of people clearly beat the **** out of there vehicles...

i dont think they make an oil to cure that problem..only slow the process

so how is mobile 1 singled out..

b/c 90% of people use it?

it's not about beating the crap out of one's car. The stuff really is thin for its rated viscosity. I would be extremely careful using the stuff.

your car is so much more capable than you realise bone stock ! tighten the nut behind the wheel before dumping that cash on it if autoX is really what you want to do... that means learn to drive. just my advice.

Oh and BTW - you'll never see 120 on an autocross course - but you will meet the rev limiter in 2nd

....d0000000000000000000d......just like everything else....people---the VAST MAJORITY OF THEM.... just do NOT want to read anything or learn anything about anything....and they don't do their homework and so they listen to wives tales and the "...i heard....' jizz and all that garbage

hence....these idiots think they HAVE to use 5w30 oil----NOT

and they think M1 great---some IS---some NOT....if ya know which is which, ya get the good jizz, if ya don't, ya get the WRONG jizz.

and engines...Subaru engines, anyway......are NOT 'broken in' at 1k mikes....or 2k...or 3k.....but I could go on all day here exposing just a portion of the cement between the ears of the majority of the board members.....alas, I have given up on trying to do too much here as I get points for being properly contrary to the mindset of the masses----the lemming masses....

have fun blowing them up, boiz....I sure have over the years---but I stopped doing that as I learned what you boiz are beating yourselves up with

An excellent oil report! For a Saturn! I think there was a mix-up at the lab!

Seriously, the report looks very good although wouldn't run this much past 3,000 miles. The viscosity converts to 9.6 cst's and the minimum to be considered a 30 weight is 9.3 cst's. I wouldn't bother with synthetic if I changed my oil every 3k.

You can tell that your driving style is conservative (or the report is from a Saturn).

Main problem I presonally have seen with the M1 when I was using it was my oil consumption was very high (1qt every 1k miles) then I switched to GC 0W-30 and the consumption went to about half a quart every 3k. I don't like having to add a quart of oil every 1k miles so I stick with other brands that don't give me that problem.
That is all I have...
