My Honda Prelude was a great car. I had so much fun with it but it was time to move on to something bigger and meaner. My final choice was a 2004 Subaru WRX STi.

I had some favorites that didn't make for a suitable daily driven car (RX-7 being the most desirable of them but didn't meet my needs).

The STi has everything I need in a car right now; speed, reliability and room. Being a college student constantly on the move, it provides me with plenty of cargo room. Being a performance enthusiast constantly looking for an adrenaline rush, it provides me with performance comparable to the world's super cars. Being someone who hates it when $h!t breaks, the STi comes with a bumper 2 bumper and power train warranty.

It also puts down power and torque like no other car I have ever driven (not counting a few exclusive cars I have moved around in a valet lot). For those that don't know it pushes out 300 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque from a horizontally opposed 2.5 liter four cylinder. This was made possible through some hefty forced induction. The STi has a 8:1 compression ratio fed by a turbo charger. Cooling the charged air pumped form the IHI VF39 turbo is a large top mounted intercooler (thus the huge hood scoop).

Complementing the power output is an impressive auto/manual all-wheel drive transaxle, a 6 speed gear box, and a outstanding set of Brembo sport brakes.

One last notable recognition to the STi in stock form is the "feels-like-suade" blue/black racing seats embroided with a red STi logo. Some complain that the seats were designed for a fat American population. I agree that I could use some more support during performance driving, but I don't complain since over 99% of my driving is street driving.

The only sacrifice incurred by picking this car was the OEM tires inability to grip on wet roads. The Bridgetone Potenza RE070's were rough on my back/spine and deadly in wet conditions (although the AWD system helps diminish this traction issue). Since I need to have the car in Miami for hurricane season new tires were a necessity. I purchased a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's.

These tires are the BEST all-around summer performance tire I could find. I feel bad about not going with the radical RE070's, but it just didnt fit my needs. My winter wheels and tires were included in the purchase.

They are Rota Tarmac II with Perilli Snowsports.

Performance Modifications:
I have the silencer removed and I installed a GP Moto Intake Elbow to take it's place. As of now I don't really have any plans for extreme performance modifications.

I pulled most my sound/entertainment system from my prelude and personally installed it nice and clean into the STi.

The sounds system include an in-dash Kenwood KVT-815 DVD player, an Alpine V12 2 channel AMP bridged to a single 10" Alpine Type-S Subwoofer.

A Escort Passport X50 radar detector has been hard wired through the roof and mounted to the ceiling. The bolt used to mount this orginally was used to secure a weird looking "sun-visor" that didn't seem to have much function. Below os a pic of my old Cobra mounted in the same spot.

Aesthetic Modifications:
I custom shaved the Subaru emblem pillar out of the front grill. This took some clever dremel work, epoxy, lots of sand paper, primer, and spray paint. The first picture below is the front grill with the pillar/emblem, and the next picture is of the pillar-less grill.

Also, take note of the change in the head light aesthetics. In the first picture the head lights have orange reflectors and in the next all clear/chrome. This evolved removing the light assembly and placing them in my over at 220 degrees to pull apart the lamp's seal! Below is a close up of the final "product".

Third, I dyed the graphite gray plastic steering wheel to a light satin black. Check it out, I hope everyone thinks it looks good because I think I inhaled about 1/2 a can of the spray dye getting it done.

The rear S.U.B.A.R.U has been removed in an attempt to get a few "What kind of car is that?" from the uninformed

Lastly, all interior lights, HVAC and the king ring, have been changed from green to red/amber to match the gauges/shift light/radar/stereo

Off camber turns are hard

This was the coolest autox course ever. There were elevation changes and banked turns.

Last bit of pictures before I put an JDM STi Front Lip on my newly repainted / repaired from bumper. I had a freaking pick-up truck back his trailer hitch into me front bumper and drive off when I was parked. I hate pick-ups. I repaired the damage and all other minor imperfections and prepped it for paint myself with the supervision of the best damn body man in Miami. Still had to pay $120 to get it painted. Final product to be posted soon. Stay posted.

Okay, here is the story. I went out for the night and parked my car in Coconut Grove. Some redneck with a pickup trunk backed his ugly truck's trailer hitch right into my front bumper. The following picture of the damage makes it look better than it was.

I wasn't there to see it happen so Mr. Drunken ******* got away scott free. I filed a police report anyway hoping for the best but expecting the worst. After getting some body work done on my old Prelude, I made a good connection with one of the best damn bodyshop guys in south Florida. The shop happens to be right across the street from my apartment, European Automitive). This guy fixes all those cars you and I will never afford (Lambo, Ferarri, Maserati, Porsche, Bentley, Rolls Royce) at all hours of the night. He can fix these rides so you would never even know it was repaired. I convinced him to let me use the shops tool and materials to repair the damage while he supervised me. And so it began...

^^^ I repaired main damage with sand paper and bondo.

^^^ I repaired all minor imperfections and rock chips and primered almost the whole bumper (left the sides, where to bumper and fender meet, blue to allow for blending). After a lot of sanding, re-sanding and cleaning I finally had the bumper ready to paint.

^^^ In the mean time, I ordered a JDM STi optional front lip accessory from another WRX owner who no longer wanted it. I got tired of waiting for the painter to work me into his schedule, so I test fitted the lip on the unpainted bumper.

^^^ I worked out a sweet deal with the painter for paint, clear coat and labor all for $120.

Note that when I originally went to the manager of the shop for an estimate, I was quoted at $600! I saved a hell of a lot of cash by working the repair myself and I got a lot of experience out of it.

I have offically gone wingless. On the day of the trunk swap my EZ-Pass malfunctioned and I got 2 fine letters in the mail. Take a look at the toll booth photos. Mad funny.

Anyway, check out the real pictures. The first batch was taken at night.

Thanks everyone! Tints are next on the agenda. I sent an email last night to Lee Berbs to schedule the tinting. He came highly recommended for tinting from everyone on the NASIOC Tri-State Forum.

Opinions? 20% or 35%

As far as dropping it goes, I wouldn't mind doing a moderate drop, may 1 to 1.5", but I won't do it until I can confirm that ride quality won't be totally sacraficed. Also I have to be sure that I won't be hitting the bumpstops on hard turns

I wanted something with a warranty. And I don't know where to get a nice streetlegal skyline for anywhere near $24K.

You get an "A" for the write up. I would have given you an "A+" but the there are a couple of typos.
Seriously, I gotta give it up for doing the bodywork yourself! Nice work.

I have the OEM BBS wheels right next to me. They go back on as soon as winter is over. I thought I specified the Rota's were my winter setup in the 1st post.

I have all the necessary components to reinstall in case I ever decide to go back to the wing. But for now I am going to stay wingless.

Nice car! And great write-up! Did you have to stuff the trunk with sound-deadning material? I would imagine that the wing might rattle an awful lot without it. That's the only thing I don't like about sound systems. With a small, clean system like that, it's not the weight from the componenents that makes me not want one, it's all the extra crap you have to put in to stop the rattles.
