Default Possible 2011 BMW M3 Competition Package - Spied

Quote:
This M3, just captured by our spy photographers, is not circling the Nürburgring without reason. Somewhat based on the M3 GT4 race car, this version will be for those who haven't forgotten what an M3 is all about: light weight, high speed, and hard driving on tracks.

Details are a bit sketchy, but we hear that the 414-hp, 4.0-liter V-8 will remain virtually untouched—just like in the GT4 racing version. Minor changes could eke out only a few more horsepower. We expect interior modifications (or deletions) to reduce weight, and the addition of a front splitter and a protruding rear spoiler to keep you on the tarmac when you are chasing 911s on the ‘Ring.

This is not the much-rumored M3 CSL—that project, rather more extensive in scope, has been killed as part of BMW's politically correct shift of focus to the advantage of "green" technologies. And this extremely performance-minded M3 also won't be called the "Gran Turismo.” Remember, that moniker now graces the portly hatchback version of the 5-series, and the next-gen 3-series will be available with a similar body variation. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the car wearing the Competition Package name, last used on a hotted-up E46 M3.

On the performance M3, the crisp six-speed manual will likely be the only transmission offered, although the seven-speed dual-clutch unit is a possibility. It will only be offered as a coupe, with its characteristic carbon-fiber roof; neither the four-door sedan nor the heavy retractable hardtop will be available in this performance trim.
We expect more details to emerge soon. In the meantime, we applaud the work of BMW's M GmbH in bringing to market a product in strict adherence to its original spirit

I had that spoiler on my Honda Accord in 1998...and my Accord was black with white wheels, and a hair lower. Taillights are quite similar, too.

Maybe they are just testing the aero. That wing is hideous.

I really hope the wing is for test purposes only. Otherwise, looks great.

The wing looks like crap. Hopefully it helps the car a lot though. Wonder how much weight they want to save on this model

Crap isn't nearly strong enough a word, "Ungodly piece of dog ****" is probably a more appropriate term.

Thats what I was thinking as well, it looks like the wing is bare metal underneath as well as the supports. My guess it is this way to measure wind flow/resistance. The wires/instrumentation is probably all tucked in the trunk wired to the horrific wing.

Those wings and stripes will not help when it comes up to a Nissan GT-R of similar cost.
M3 loses badly!

All the wings and all the stripes will not help the M3 when it come to the equal priced Nissan GT-R. The M3 is a luxury beauty but just has no punch at lower rpms.
