c02 sprayer on IC
Has anyone done this and dynoed the results? One can be made easy with cheap parts. And being a paintball supply distributor, The parts can be sourced cheap. IIRC, liquid c02 is about -80*f

But does anyone have numbers or info on performance. I can make it for under 80 bucks, might as well do it if the results are worth it.

I've heard people claim a 25hp gain, but............. The cost of the kit isn't what makes co2 not really worth getting, it's the upkeep. Unless you get co2 for free, the cost per power ratio isn't so great compared other options(like n2o, water, or higher octane fuel).

I had it on my sti and i made a halo to fit directly into the oem i/c and used liquid c02 and it helped on the 1/4 mile track in the hot days. C02 is alot cheaper and will freeze the i/c before n02 .3 second shot if it put frost on my i/c on a 95 degree day and with 88% humidity.Never got it tuned but it deff. will help.

A buddy and me are in the process of making Co2 intercooler kits for our STI's. We are actually thinking about marketing them. The only difference in our kit and say Cryo2 and NX is we use a 20oz tank instead of a heavy 10lb tank like they use. NX and Cryo2 sell for 400-500 bucks, we could sell ours for 300 shipped. We are going to use good quality parts, none of the cheap knock off stuff. Kit includes:
1- 20oz tank 1- 14' steel braided line ( from tank to solenoid ) 1- 2' steel braided line ( from solenoid to halo ) 1- solenoid ( exact same as Cryo2 ) 1- choice of switch ( WOT, boost or push-button ) 1- custom made halo for your application 1- kevlar jacket for tank ( saftey first ) Right now were still in the design process, but just posting this to see if there is a market for it. If anyone is interested or has questions, shoot me a PM. Nick |

You need the 10lb tank because it takes a lot of co2 to cool an intercooler. Have you ever put a peice of metal in a freezer and waited to see how long it took to get to the same temp as the inside of the freezer? How about with hot air going through the inside of the piece of metal?
It doesn't matter how much you can get a tank for, or how much you can get some hoses for. Anyone can make a diy co2 spray for pretty cheap, but if they can't get co2 for free, they're gonna end up spending a lot of money on co2. The co2 would have to be less then a quarter of the price of n2o to make it anywhere near worth what an n2o kit can do. This is cause you'd have to dump a lot more gas outside an intercooler then inside to have the same cooling effect on the air inside the intercooler, and the extra oxygen from n2o injection would help net more power while using much much much less gas. Alc/water injection has a much lower upkeep then n2o injection or co2 spray, but it requires a tune to get the results. peace |

No I haven't. Here's my theory of what happens with you though... Maybe the co2 just knocks ya out for 5-10 seconds, and when you wake up you think it's been .3 seconds(just kidding)? Since you tried it though, how much did the .3 second shot of co2 help your quarter mile? Have you ever stuck you ever gone into a walk in freezer for more then 5 seconds? How much do you think it changed the temp of your blood? .3 seconds? really?

I'm not saying that it makes a huge difference but think about it you spray liquid c02 on your hand it will burn . I'm pretty sure its like -75 degrees .I think you've been in the meat locker too much and is killing your brain cells ,who is talking about freezers this is aluminum not skin dude i think your over looking this.I had temp probes hooked up to the i/c and with a 3 sec. shot it dropped . This will help prevent heat soak not big tq. gains. Thats why i bought mater meth kit .

Cold C02 spraying onto an intercooler may look pretty funny if it makes its way out of your hoodscoop. not likely while driving but if you ever did it at a standstill

I have one (CRY-02) and it helps, especially on a hot day when you've been running the car hard and then you get stuck in traffic, toll booths, etc. Just spray it a few time and it helps with the heat soak.
Do you get 25hp gain,...ahhhhh...N O ! Can you feel a power increase...no. It just seems to help you from losing the power that you have. Also, the tank (10lb) can run out quite quickly in the summer. If I had to do it over again I'd save the money from the CRY-02 and invest it in water/meth injection. That will get you some more HP with tuning. Also you have to watch CO2 if you have a short ram intake, if you're going slow or stopped when you spray it, it can get ingested into the intake and stall the engine. I sprayed it and then backed up once and killed the car in it's tracks, CELS and all. I just pulled off the neg battery terminal. Reset it and it was fine. |

Aviod these spray bars, they are a very bad idea. It is impossible to keep from spraying into the engine, n2o leans af's and co2 robs the engine of oxygen. The link adds some detail http://www.cryofuzion.com/spraybar.htm.
