Default Not PPB, but need help modeling Turbo 1/4mi data

So, I'm creating a database specific to Subarus that is far more granular than anything I've found that records quarter mile times and the setups used to get them. Everything else doesn't allow you extract any meaning from the data.

So, to cut to the chase, I'm trying to model turbos. For example:

- brand
- model
- compressor_housing
- turbine_housing
- ported
etc...

wastegate (external or internal) will be stored at the car level.

I feel like I'm way off. Like, should I have trim? Are things like Inducer and Exducer size useful?

For Garrett turbos, I could simply use the specific model number, but I'm not really sure how this applies to other turbo's (IHI, AVO, etc.) and hybrids like (Element Tuning, etc.).

What is the MINIMUM amount of data that I can have about a turbo that still provides the proper differential information from turbo to turbo but doesn't contain redundant information

I'm posting here because it seems like this forum gets a lot of tuners and builders in it.

Geoff from Full-Race and discopotato03 on the boards seem to really know a lot about turbos. I would try PMing them specifically and seeing if they can help you.

Are you planning on including amount of displacement in this section of data? Ball bearing versus journal? I know you put etc but I'm not exactly sure what you plan on including there.

Yeah, I was going to PM Geoff, but that guy is so busy... hehe.

I guess that's what I'm trying to decide, though. I could just model product numbers. Garrett XXXX or GT52 or FPGreen or APS XXXX and then let the users compare for themselves and figure out which turbo is which. The only problem is then is that people with crazy custom hotside and compressor side with clipped wheels and all that shiz won't have a category. There's tons of TD0X-XX 18g combos too.

lb/min rating on the compressor should be the minimum.....along with exhaust housing size......63, .82. 7cm^2, 8cm^2 depending on the turbo application.

The problem with the 7cm^2 and 8cm^2 thing is that each manufacturer doesn't measure it at the same exact point You'd have to classify genuine Mistubishi 8cm housing, or another cast piece that is close, such as 7.8cm^2 that I believe Blouch (could be wrong though) has.

meh, I think it's good enough when it comes down to 1/4 mile times.

bottom line, you have to have flow out of the compressor.....combined with enough flow from the turbine. Just make sure you say your last sentence in your writeup.

I think it really depends on the turbo... for IHI turbos, just the model number is enough. For MHI you need at least the compressor (16G, 18G, 20G, etc) and the hotside (TD05, TD06, TD06H, etc). For Garrett it gets a little more complicated, but knowing the GT28/GT30/GT35 plus the compressor capacity in lbs/min plus the turbine AR (.63, .82, etc) would do a reasonably good job.

Garrett part numbers would be useful, but the commonly used designations like GT30 are meaningless and the meaningful part numbers aren't commonly used. Look at all the numbers at this page and you'll see what I mean: http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob..._700382_12.htm

Yeah, that's why I bolded the word specific. That's the model number I was talking about.

My problem is I need to find a way to represent these regardless of brand. Maybe I'll just use brand and model numbers and for the MHI turbos I'll just include the housings in the model number. That just leaves out custom turbos.
