You're ecu resets any time you disconnect the battery, and it re-learns quickly. That's really not an issue at all.

Big question of the day!
To add side body moldings or not to add side body moldings? I didn't order the car with them but maybe after I pick the car up its something I should really think about. Door dings are the worst. People are careless and I live in a city. What do you all think? ...and GO! |

I agree just to wait anyhow. But not for the reason of wanting the ecu to "learn". Any performance mod you do, whether it needs a new tune or not, you should disconnect the battery to reset the ecu at that time.

I personally think the side molding looks gross.

I've seen a lot of people "shave" those side moldings on certain other cars, cause apparently ... well i don't know . They've very hard to notice, unless you're conciously thinking about _that. If I see a car with or without them it looks like that's just how the car is designed and there's really no thoughts one way or the other. But if they offer the car w/o them that's great it's an option.
I didn't get them, no reason really, but I sort of considered the bumper guards since every car I've ever owned has that problem .. but I didn't get those either.... it's a car, if you drive it anywhere, it will get some imperfections over time no matter how hard you try to stop it. As long as it's not totally neglected appearance wise, not falling apart, and driving well, that's good enough for me. you'll have the stone chips in the hood etc, big deal. DISCUSSION INCOMING:
So I feel that the general thoughts on the I, S, S# selection in the thread during break-in period are all over the place and feel we should talk about how people are running theirs during break-in. From what I have read, I runs lean, mainly for gas mileage, and from people have said S# runs alot more rich. So during a break-in period whether u do a hard break-in or not for the first 20-50 miles, or baby it the whole 1000 miles, would it not make sense to put the car through the break-in period in "S" mode as it would act as a happy medium between somewhat lean and somewhat rich or am i not understanding this correctly? I personally plan to do a hard breakin for the first 20-50 miles out the dealer and then run sub 4k rpm for rest of the period til a 1000, then plan on not going more that 1/2 throttle til 2k miles while going up to 5500 rpms Last edited by Siclos; 12-01-2012 at 11:38 AM. |

I will share with everyone something.... If a car has a port installed option, they install all of those options on every car at one port. They do not distribute the cars to many ports and maintain multiple facilities for these installs. It would make sense to ship all of these cars for east coast distribution to a port that is in the same state as your North America HQ...

And hard break in in no way shape or form means I'm going to WOT out the gates to 6k rpms. And with all the ring land issues on even full stock cars that claimed to have been babied to 1k miles still blowing, I'm not totally sold on subaru a break in procedure being the only way to do it.
