So I finally broke my 3rd gear of my 2006 WRX with just a vf39, Alky, Cobb Exhaust, ID 1000's and a DOMTUNE of course. Needless to say a was surprised that I broke it, also considering I do not beat my tranny at all. But I have decided to change that..... I have been wanting to try a dog for a while, and decided to just go for it, I went a head and ordered up a Albins Group N ratio straight cut dog set... all which screem "don't street and DD", so I was a bit nervous, but figured what the heck.... but have to say I could not be happier...
I was most worried about the noise, but it really is not that bad at all. The close ratios make acceleration even more fun than it used to be, and the dog engagement... all I can say is WOW! , yes it is a bit clunky and feels a bit strange, but you can shift so fast its nuts, as fast as you can throw it into gear its there, fun fun.... This is my DD, so I imagine I will only get better at it and make things even more enjoyable...

Thanks to all at MPS, Dominic, Craig, and Wes, I drove in today with a busted tranny, and drove out with a brand new dog box!!
Thanks guys!!

Below(posts1-3) is my day today at MPS, getting these gears put in.

First thing in the morning on my way up, exit 206 off of I5 north of Seattle

Arriving at the shop

Up on the rack, starting to work

Tranny ready to drop

Begin teardown

The Carnage....

You're very welcome.
I'm glad someone could utilize our 'same day gear service'.

I didn't realize you were taking so many pictures. lol

A note on the gears:
The whine was so minor I was blown away. I fully expected it to sound like the car was stuck in reverse like some other straight cut gear sets.

My next trans is going to be dog engagement as well.

they aren't as bad as people think. Yes they are more expensive, but they come with the selector forks. If you bought a synchro set and all the selector forks, the price would be very close.

$500.00
It is extra on top of a normal trans install because we put the whole crew on it at once and stop working on other projects. Obviously we need a little heads up because sometimes there are projects we can't halt work on. For some people it's extremely worth it as they need their car running ASAP.

Yeah, need someone to ride with me again, will work on it.
engaging first from a standstill is no problem, just push the clutch, wait a couple of seconds and it drops in, no clunk, every now and then when the dogs are perfectly un-alligned you need to jiggle things around a bit, just like a normal box is sometimes getting it into reverse.

Albins is supporting USRC this year, so its nice to see they have a good product.

Sweet! You can finally get full potential from that engine w/o worry.
I am thinking about the the solid mounts.... how much of noise/vibration did it add?

PM'd a mod to have the title changed to reflect that it was our shop you were trying to give a review for. Hopefully it'll get changed to something that better associates our shop.
