Default Best all season performance tires

Calling all pros! This will be my first winter in my 2011 STi, and I know the stock Dunlop tires will just not do in my NYC winters so I wanted to know what tires everyone is using that will give snow and wet grip but not sacrifice performance. I am leaning towards the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, but wanted to poll my fellow subie enthusiasts, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yea i have been to the tire rack website, but i was looking for an answer to my question. I know a separate set is best but that is not an option for me right now. Thanks for the input.

Are looking to switch to them back and forth each winter season or just swap to them all year round? A snow tire is going to perform more optimally in the lower temperatures as well as in the snow, ice, etd over an a/s.

As an all season tire in the snow/winter months review I had excellent traction, grip, and stability on my re960as on my 04 WRX. Pretty much drove on all surfaces/temps/conditions without a worry or issue. Currently have kuhmo ecsta asx on my STi for the winter months and had no real problems. They only have 6/32nds of tread left but had no problem dealing with 6 inches of snow on the ground. Just running them currently until I replace them with better set for winter time.. Not too fond on their noise level and only use them since they came with the car.

Just looking to put one set on for year round use, I use the car as my daily driver. I hear the Michelin pilot sport a/s 3 and continue dws are good. Who makes the tires you have?

Currently I have bridgestone re-11s for my summer set and those kuhmos as my winters. I will probably be swapping to bridgestone re970as as the discontinued the 960as. Its hard to want commit to full snow tires here in KS as the weather is always doing whatever it wants. And warm temps are killer on snow tires.

All seasons on my non modded wrx felt fine but I would be worried about them having enough grip for an STi. The kuhmos were def under tiring the car.. Not sure how you drive your car but it is def worth noting.

You don't need a separate set. I've always run a all-season ultra high performance tire and namely the Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Season before they discontinued them and had great results. I live in Utah and spend a ton of time in the mountains and the snow and pushing my car to it's limits and never use a summer tire. I bought Falken Azenis RT-615's once and never again will I run anything but something the like Falken Ziex, Bridgestone RE970, Goodyear Eagle F1, etc.

I'm sure glad no new tires have been introduced since that thread was last updated in March 2012.

Make sure you post that same comment in every thread that asks about tires.

Ive been driving on these for a bit and they are very decent. I live in the mountains and destroy tires for a past time it seems.

I just bought the Proxes 4 Plus. they seem pretty decent so far except for the plull to the right i was having problems trying to figure out (ALREADY POSTED ABOUT THAT--I DONT NEED TO HEAR ABOUT "CHECK YOUR ALIGNMENT, REBALANCE YOUR TIRES, TRY THIS TRY THAT"...IVE BEEN THROUGH IT ALL) My car still pulls to the right a little under harder accellaration, but i am going to be rotating these tires often so they wear evenly, unless i start having problems again with pulling in a direction, then i will buy new tires. But as for grip they seem pretty good. i have done some "spirited" driving on them and they seem to perform well.

Hivoltj, hopefully they treat you well

Great in the snow...but a sidewall only a mother could love. Really wreck the handling of the car, especially in smaller-wheel sizes with a tall sidewall.

while the DWS is currently tops in the snow traction category the new Pilot Sport AS3 has crushed it in our testing. We have not tested the winter grip of the Pilot as it just came out in July ...

Dude, if you've swapped tires from right side to left side and it pulls to the left after then you have a least one defective tire and they should be warranteed. Often a pull is caused by something else, but something called "Tire conicity" can cause it and the manufacturer should take care of it.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I am going to go with the Pilot Sport AS3, now the question is, which speed category?!?! Again i use my car for limited spirited driving and mainly as a daily driver, suggestions?

How are the AS3 compared to the P Zero Nero All Season? Which one has a stiffer sidewall?

I am between these 2 as of now and cant decide.

the top three in my mind are the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3. Bridgestone Potenza RE970 and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric AS. The Continental Extreme Contact DWS is better than the others in the snow but, loses ground in the dry and wet. We just completed a test of all four and it should be published on our website shortly
