Question Tire storage question...

I just got my Kumho V700's mounted last night. I'm so ready for the next autocross!!

My question is what is the best way to store these tires? I've heard various rumors, but no solid answers. Stacked? Upright (lined in a row against the garage wall)? Hang on the wall?

I've heard that if you stack the tires, their weight will affect the tires on and near the bottom of the stack. Not sure if it tends to squash the sidewalls or what.

I've also heard that sitting the tires upright, like they'd be on the car, isn't good. Apparently they will tend to develop flat spots from sitting in one position for too long.

Hanging was suggested as the best way to keep the weight off the tire. I don't have a problem with this. Plenty of wall space in the garage.

I was hoping some of you guys & gals that have a set of race rubber would be able help. Thanks!

Adam

The best way is to hang them, but I haven't built a rack yet. Standing them on end (on the tread face) is very bad, makes a flat spot.

I have had no problems stacking them, but I do use two short stacks.

I've temporarily stacked them. But, I was looking at something like this, http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog....3010&SKU=92300 .

I've also had someone suggest using a hanger rod and rope to hang them from the ceiling. Sounds like a cheaper alternative anyway! Thanks Colin.

I've got two of those 13" mounts from Griot's Garage, they work awesome. My aut0-x tires are hanging in the garage right now, keeps them out of the way, no flat spots, no sidewall damage. They are very sturdy, I tested their weight holding ability by doing a few pull-ups on 'em!

Are 13" mounts long enough? I was thinking about the 23".

Yeah, I was looking at the long ones, too. I think the 13" might be a little short for the wider V700's.

How do you arrange the wheels, Opie? Face to face, or what?

the wheels are put on with the wheel face on both wheels facing the wall, the sidewalls bulge enough to keep the wheel from actually touching the wall.

The 13" are long enough for two '99 RS wheels with 205/55-16 Goodyear Eagle F1's mounted on them. There is still about 2-3" of the mount sticking out past the wheel center. I guess depending on the size tires you guys are running, you may need the longer mounts if you think the extra 2-3" is not enough.

P.S. The mounting "rod" has a slight angle to it, be sure when you are mounting them that it is angled up, if it is angled down, the wheels could slide off.

I don't think the V700's are wide enough for that to be a problem. I've had them mounted to the stock '99 RS wheels. I'd say they are roughly 3/4" wider than the stock tires. Thanks for the info.
