Post Amsoil filter installed - dumb question needs an answer please

OK, I put it in without any hassle and did an ECU reset. The car now idles a bit lower and acceleration is noticeably smoother throughout the RPM range. It's now very easy to rev to redline. Too, there is a nice deep growl at WOT (slightly intrusive, but if I need that much gas I probably don't care about the noise at that moment!). Where I used to have a few flat spots/hesitation (especially at @3100 rpms) it now is very smooth. Recommended mod for anyone!

OK, dumb question time – As I was coming to work I was thinking about the direction of the panel when I installed it. There is a rigid mesh visible on one side and foam on the other. I faced the mesh toward the intake side, reasoning that if I sucked any debris/bugs/etc.. into the intake the mech would prevent the debris from tearing the foam. Is this correct? Should I instead turn the filter around so the hard mesh prevents any foam from being pulled into the throttle body??? This is kind of worrying me...

Joe,
I believe you do have it backwards. The metal mesh is to support the foam. The filter is designed with a lighter foam first to trap big particles followed by a finer foam to trap smaller stuff. The metal mesh is glued to the back of the finer foam and supports the whole setup. Hope this helps.

Tony

Don't over oil the filter, it makes a mess (been there, done that )

Yep, backwards. I'm glad you like it though.
