Default What else to buy for oil psi gauge install?

Have a 2005 sti. Have a oil psi gauge in the pod but not hooked up yet. I have the sandwich adaptor plate, but I've heard mixed reviews about going that route, with oil leaks and fire hazards... Thinking I'll go with the oil galley plug route.....

looks like i can get the plug here:
http://www.jscspeed.com/catalog/Gaug...TI-2003-1.html

then what else would I need?

Do you have the pressure sending unit? Will it clip together with your gauge/gauge harness? Do you have the correct wiring harness?

Thanks for responding, I was actually taking everything out of the box when you posted... This is everything I have, STRI gauge, obviously the gauge isn't in the picture, as it's in the pod. I think if I order the galley plug- plus what I have, I should be all set right? I just don't want to start the install and realize I have to go to the auto parts store once everything is apart...

Whats in the box.. (not using sandwich adaptor plate)

Hmmm..... I'm not so sure if you can use a pressure galley plug with that kit. Hopefully someone else can chime in, but I would suggest selling that gauge and buy one that has the galley plug pressure sender in the kit.

Edit: Did you buy the pressure plate separately?

If so, your kit should have pretty much everything you need for the install. You don't need to buy another oil pressure galley plug, your car already has one. You just unhook the stock sensor and screw the new pressure sending unit in. To create a solid seal, you can wrap the threads in Teflon tape before screwing it in.

Alright thanks again for the input. I was thinking of not going with the sandwich adaptor plate, as i've heard of issues.. and going a different route. what are my options if I don't use that? anyone else have an stri oil psi gauge hooked up? Does that sending unit (bottom right of my picture) replace the galley plug? does that screw right in? I'm not really familiar with how to get this hooked up, but it's been sitting around for months.

See my edit above ^^

I'm pretty sure you can screw your pressure sending unit (PSU) into the stock galley plug that's located right under your alternator. Check out THIS THREAD, it's not car specific, and it is a Defi install, but I couldn't see the install for your gauge being much different. The only problem that you might run into is if the PSU doesn't fit in the stock galley plug. It looks like it's the same thread size, so you should be okay.

Not a fan of sandwich adapters. Your sending unit is a bit large to fit under the alternator (ie. directly into the OEM oil switch galley plug). You will need to use an isolation kit with uses a flexible line to remote mount the larger sending unit somewhere else in the engine bay. I suggest keeping an oil psi meter at the front galley plug.
The existing galley adapter has 1/8bsp threads. If the sender or the isolator kit uses a 1/8npt thread you "should" get a galley adapter that has matching threads or at very least a bsp->npt adapter. Some will jamb whatever 1/8 thread in there and hope it seals with tape or sealer without leaking. Meh

you can probably use a grease gun hose as an extender like this guy in the DIY remote oil pressure thread

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...0#post36224300

at least something to think about with your existing kit stuff

That sender is huge. I don't think it will fit in the one under the TB either. You might be stuck usin the adapter plate.

Listen to JarHarms too. The threads are different. Make sure you have the correct adapter. I think I may actually have one if you need it.
